Job description

In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in the US. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

HSBC’s Global Payments Solutions Emerging Payments Team looks to evolve our payments, settlements, and currencies clearing products with emerging business models, technologies, and partnerships.  In this global role, the successful candidate will be part of the global emerging payments product team and get the opportunity to work with clients, internal stakeholders, fintech’s, central banks, and other third party partners to evolve our product offerings, innovate new propositions, and help build the money and payment system for the future.

HSBC’s Global Payments Solutions (GPS) Digital Currency Team is evolving our payments, settlement and currency clearing products using digital currencies enabled by emerging technologies, business models and partnerships. In this global role, you’ll join the global digital currency product team and work with clients, internal stakeholders, fintech’s, central banks and third-party partners to enhance existing offerings and build new propositions—particularly across on-chain payments, stablecoin issuance/distribution and tokenized settlement to support the real-time treasury era.

Principal responsibilities

  • Global product ownership: Own the GPS Digital Currency product portfolio across on-chain payments, stablecoin-based settlement and tokenized money propositions (e.g., tokenized deposits / regulated stablecoins where applicable). Develop digital currency propositions that solve real client problems.
  • Value proposition development: Identify and evaluate market trends in on-chain payments, stablecoins, tokenized money and programmable settlement, and develop a strategy to realize these opportunities—grounded in how corporate and institution treasurers manage liquidity and B2B payments and settlements.
  • New product development and roll-out: Develop and commercialize GPS Digital Currency propositions using evolving technologies and networks, including deposit tokens and stablecoin issuance and lifecycle management, on-chain payment and settlement flows (atomic settlement patterns, PvP/DvP concepts, interoperability with existing rails and exception handling), 24/7 operating model design and integration patterns for corporate and institution adoption
  • Customer and deal solutioning: Lead product solutioning for RFPs and bespoke client requirements, including treasury and wholesale use cases such as real-time cross-border settlement, intragroup flows, tokenized cash legs for tokenized assets, programmable payments, and conditional/automated settlement aligned to treasury policies.
  • Ecosystem and network partnerships: Build and commercialize propositions on Layer 1 / institutional networks (e.g., Canton, BASE, Tempo, Arc-type networks). Develop partnership models with infrastructure providers, fintech’s and market participants to accelerate adoption and distribution. Define network selection criteria (reach, governance, privacy, interoperability, settlement finality and compliance tooling) and scale ecosystem participation.
  • Regulator engagement: Support internal teams and external market participants (including regulators) on consultations, proofs of concept, pilots and industry collaborations related to stablecoins, tokenized deposits and on-chain settlement—clearly articulating controls, consumer/wholesale protections (as applicable) and financial stability considerations.
  • Risk management and product reviews: Assess and address inherent and residual risks of new GPS Digital Currency products, including financial crime, sanctions, operational resilience, technology risk, legal/regulatory and reputational considerations. Ensure governance and controls suitable for a regulated bank environment, including transaction monitoring for on-chain flows, wallet policy controls and robust audit trails.
  • Marketing and thought leadership: Create and respond to media or marketing opportunities to promote HSBC’s leading position in the digital currencies and assets agenda.

Requirements

  • Client understanding: Strong understanding of wholesale payments clients and corporate treasury needs, especially always-on liquidity, real-time cash visibility, intraday funding and straight-through reconciliation. Ability to translate needs into product design choices for on-chain payments, stablecoin issuance/settlement and tokenized money—balancing speed with control, auditability and risk management.
  • Tokenized payments landscape: Strong insight into stablecoin and tokenized money trends, competitive offerings, disruptors, and evolving regulations, technologies and market infrastructure. Ability to articulate where tokenized money adds value versus existing rails (speed, certainty, programmability, interoperability) and where it does not.
  • Commercialization and network experience: Proven experience commercializing products/propositions on Layer 1 / institutional networks (e.g., Canton, BASE, Tempo, Arc-type networks), including ecosystem strategy, partner management and scaling adoption. Experience defining commercial models (pricing, distribution, onboarding and service model) for network-based propositions is strongly preferred.
  • Technology savvy: Good knowledge of DLT/blockchain, smart contracts, token standards, wallets/custody operating models and API-based integration for on-chain payments and settlement. Implementation experience in API and distributed ledger technologies in a transaction banking context is a strong advantage. Familiarity with event-driven architecture and ledger/statement reconciliation patterns is beneficial.
  • Industry and market standards: In-depth understanding of payments industry standards and settlement message types/formats for B2B payments and wholesale settlement, including SWIFT, CLS and PvP/DvP settlement models. Familiarity with settlement mechanisms for financial market products and tokenized asset settlement is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural team with remote working arrangements. Strong communication across levels, functions and geographies.
  • Relevant experience: Minimum 8 years’ experience in B2B/Wholesale Payments, Cash Management or Transaction Banking required. Experience in stablecoin ecosystems, tokenization platforms, digital currencies & assets, central banks, exchanges, fintech’s, and wallet/custody/settlement is an advantage.
  • Language proficiencies: Excellent English verbal and written communication required; Mandarin Chinese is an advantage.
