We are hiring a key member for our fast‑growing Electronic Trading Coverage Desk in New York. The role centres on the day‑to‑day management of client flow through our e‑platform, supporting both internal clients (Equity Derivatives, Prime) and external institutional clients across our algorithmic trading and DMA (Direct Market Access) solutions. The candidate will be client‑facing with a clear mandate to deepen relationships and grow revenues from existing accounts through tailored product configuration, proactive performance reviews, and high‑quality execution consultancy. The role is ideally suited to candidates with a strong financial background, deep knowledge of market regulation, an excellent grasp of equities market structure and electronic trading systems, and prior experience in client‑facing roles.
As our Associate Director you will:
- Manage day‑to‑day client activity across the e‑platform, overseeing onboarding, configuration, and workflow optimisation
- Drive revenue growth from existing clients through relationship building, proactive idea generation, and measurable execution enhancements
- Advise clients on algorithm selection, introduce new algorithmic strategies, optimise parameters, and refine DMA routing logic to enhance execution quality
- Conduct performance reviews and pre/post‑trade analytics; translate insights into actionable improvements
- Partner closely with Sales, Trading, and Quant/Tech to deliver customised solutions and resolve issues quickly
- Collaborate with High Touch, Program Trading, Prime, and HSS (HSBC Securities Services) to expand the electronic trading offering for clients already active with HSBC through other channels
- Provide market colour and guidance on market structure changes; deliver client training on algorithms and value‑add execution tactics. Use TCA (Transaction Cost Analysis) to help clients improve against benchmarks and to drive revenues
- Be a liaise with global E‑Sales and E‑Trading teams to support clients with global relationships and to promote cross‑regional capabilities
- Contribute to the electronic trading desk’s technology transformation by providing structured ideas and client/desk feedback on the new trading stack, helping to prioritise features and improve resiliency, latency, and usability
- Help prepare client pitches and presentations
- Contribute to external marketing initiatives to elevate HSBC’s execution profile, including conferences, media engagement, and marketing collateral
- Maintain rigorous controls across conduct, risk, and regulatory obligations
- Adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators
- Ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organization. This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviors that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators
- Responsible for managing and mitigating operational and conduct risk in their day-to-day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structures referred to as the 'Three Lines of Defense'. The job holder should understand their position within Three Lines of Defense and operate within operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure
- Display an understanding of and adherence to internal controls, as well as relevant regulatory guidelines and controls, and promote the awareness of the same
- Maintain awareness of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations
- Ensure compliance with operational risk controls in accordance with internal and/or regulatory standards and policies; optimize relations with regulators by addressing inquiries
You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:
- Cash Equities product knowledge, with a strong understanding of the front‑to‑back trade lifecycle
- Experience supporting and scaling an Electronic Trading desk to deliver high‑quality execution for global clients
- Emerging‑markets Cash Equities knowledge and experience (desirable)
- Deep knowledge of equities market structure and trading technology/architecture
- Strong understanding of equities regulations and best‑execution obligations
- Ability to establish and effectively manage governance forums that support the business
- Knowledge of cross‑border tax implications in a global equities business, including booking models and regulatory regimes
- Strong academic record and broad knowledge of financial markets and corporate finance
- Experience in project management with a proven track record of successful delivery
- Strategic thinker with a proactive, “can‑do” attitude and the confidence to challenge the status quo
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality analysis with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and operate effectively under time pressure
- Team player/leader with strong communication skills; able to decompose and explain complex issues to varied audiences
- Excellent organisation and time‑management skills
- The candidate must already hold active FINRA registrations: Series 7, Series 57, and Series 63

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
