Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) – Associate, Sector and Strategic Corporate Finance

About HSBC CMA

HSBC’s Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) division partners with corporate and financial sponsor clients on high-impact financing and strategic decisions.

CMA’s corporate finance advisory services deliver financing-led investment banking solutions across areas such as debt capital markets, leveraged and acquisition finance, convertible and hybrid securities, project and infrastructure finance, risk management, and structured finance.

CMA supports clients through event-driven situations, including acquisition financing and other strategic transactions, where HSBC can provide differentiated financing outcomes.

The opportunity

The role spans both Sector and Strategic Corporate Finance, providing broad exposure across industry sectors and corporate finance solutions.

Sector and Strategic Corporate Finance teams are at the forefront of strategic client dialogue; shaping conversations early, then mobilizing the right products and partners to deliver financing-led capital markets and advisory solutions for corporate and private equity sponsor clients.

You’ll work across and gain exposure to all sectors, partnering closely with sector and product specialists across CMA. You’ll support both origination and execution, producing rigorous analysis and client materials that shape strategic dialogue and drive live transactions.

Associates own key workstreams across origination and execution, and serve as a critical link between senior bankers, product teams and analysts.

The role will be based in New York City, with an expectation of in-office attendance from Monday through Friday.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work directly with senior bankers to help win new business and execute transactions across CMA’s financing and advisory toolkit
  • Take a lead role in core corporate finance analyses, including:
Peer benchmarking, valuation, capital structure, capital allocation, shareholder/investor targeting and returns analyses (e.g., ROIC-style frameworks as relevant)
  • Analyze industry and company dynamics, financial statements, business plans and valuation to support the approval and credit decision making processes
  • Drive production of client materials: Drafting and refinement of pitchbooks and strategic materials to ensure they are client-ready
  • Identify and support origination ideas: Screen for potential M&A targets, partnerships and other strategic options leveraging HSBC’s international platform
  • Coordinate execution workstreams across internal stakeholders (product partners, Relationship Management, risk and other functions as required)
  • Oversee, train and coach Analysts, including reviewing models and materials and setting quality standards
  • Maintain strong market awareness across sectors to ensure messaging is current and differentiated

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree from a leading university with strong academic performance
  • Front office experience at a global investment bank (ideally within M&A, Sector Coverage or a Capital Markets team); will consider existing Associate-level candidates or rising 3rd-year Analysts
  • FINRA licenses: SIE, Series 79, Series 63, or expected to acquire required licenses within 120 days of joining
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills; confident partnering across teams and levels of seniority
  • Superior communication, analytical and organizational skills; exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong corporate finance toolkit (accounting, financial modelling and valuation) and understanding of global financial and capital markets
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with FactSet / Capital IQ / Bloomberg
  • High motivation, strong work ethic and a collaborative, team-based approach

As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow.
