CIB Technology Leadership India Strategy

Head of CIB Technology, India (Mumbai)

The Head of CIB Technology, India is responsible for leading in-country technology strategy and execution for Corporate and Institutional Banking, aligned to Group and Regional CIO direction. The role owns senior technology engagement with India business stakeholders, ensures delivery of the local change portfolio, and provides oversight of technology services operating within India.

Core accountabilities

  • Engineering leadership and architecture

    Provide hands-on technical leadership across engineering practices, with a strong focus on API-led integration and platforms aligned to the India Digital Public Stack.
    Drive modern engineering standards across design, build, test, release, and run, with strong governance over SDLC and delivery quality.
  • Domain ownership (CIB)

    Lead technology outcomes across domestic and cross-border payments, trade solutions, and corporate banking platforms, with a solid working understanding of markets technology dependencies and integration points.
    Enable end-to-end digitisation across mobile and corporate banking, including customer-centric self-service (DIY) journeys and straight-through processing.
  • Regulatory and compliance alignment (India)

    Ensure technology delivery and operations comply with India-specific regulatory requirements, including FEMA and relevant Digital Lending regulatory guidance/circulars.
    Coordinate and deliver local regulatory enhancements that may sit outside standard global ownership models, ensuring clear accountability and timely execution.
  • Portfolio execution and demand management

    Own in-country oversight of the change portfolio, ensuring priorities are transparent, outcomes are measurable, and delivery is aligned to business value.
    Represent India demand into global/regional portfolios, ensuring requirements are well-defined and positioned for prioritisation at Group level.
  • Service management and operational resilience

    Provide governance for application and service management for locally owned services, including incident/problem management, change control, and service quality.
    Lead resolution and coordination for critical technology incidents and major deployments impacting India.
  • Cybersecurity and risk management

    Embed strong security-by-design practices, partnering with cybersecurity teams to manage technology risk, control compliance, and resilience across the estate.
  • Financial management and cost control

    Partner with business leadership on financial planning, investment cases, and cost optimisation, with accountability for budget, headcount, and annual planning for India technology teams.
  • People leadership and cross-team delivery

    Lead and develop local engineering teams, while working closely with Group technology teams to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver outcomes that maximise value for the India franchise.
    Manage organisational change activities locally (where applicable), in coordination with HR and relevant governance forums.
  • Governance and stakeholder management

    Participate in country/regional governance forums, providing clear technology leadership, delivery transparency, and risk/issue escalation where required.
    Support senior stakeholder engagement with regulators and key external bodies as needed, in partnership with the Regional CIO and country leadership.
