Job Purpose
The Premier proposition is a strategic priority for HSBC. The Product Expert (Insurance) is a specialist role within IWPB, focused on insurance sales by fulfilling clients’ protection needs.
The role works in close partnership with Premier Relationship Managers (PRMs) and branch/service colleagues to:
- identify protection gaps using a needs-based approach,
- recommend suitable insurance solutions,
- enable simplified insurance journeys to improve conversion and client experience.
Targets are rolled up across the aligned channels, primarily:
- Branch Premier RM Channel, and
- Service Channel (supporting simplified journeys and fulfilment).
Principal Accountabilities
Impact on the Business / Function
- Drive insurance outcomes by supporting PRMs and channels to convert identified protection needs into appropriate solutions.
- Strengthen HSBC’s position as a leading wealth and protection provider through deep product expertise and client-centric delivery.
- Support PRMs to deepen and grow client relationships through needs discovery, solution structuring and technical support.
- Conduct protection/portfolio reviews with PRMs (as appropriate), assess suitability and help manage risks and opportunities.
- Support adoption of simplified journeys, tools and process improvements; contribute to product launches where relevant.
- Coach PRMs and teams to improve product knowledge, sales effectiveness and quality.
Customers / Stakeholders
- Communicate clearly with clients on insurance solutions, including benefits, costs, key exclusions, risks and suitability.
- Support client education sessions/events to improve understanding of protection planning (as required).
- Work with Wealth Development, HSBC Insurance and relevant product partners to improve client outcomes and service quality.
- Provide structured feedback from PRMs/clients to help improve products, journeys and servicing.
- Apply market and channel intelligence to identify competitive gaps, service issues and opportunities.
Leadership & Teamwork
- Operate as a strong team partner to PRMs and channel colleagues; deploy time strategically and commercially.
- Partner with Sales Managers/Wealth leadership to manage product-specific needs and portfolio risks.
- Act as an ambassador for HSBC with high professional standards and consistent values-based behaviour.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Ensure recommendations and sales activity follow the needs-based sales process and meet suitability requirements.
- Ensure all processes and procedures are accurate and in accordance with IWPB policy standards and local regulatory requirements.
- Comply with local regulations across sales processes, client correspondence, financial promotions, administration and complaint handling.
- Complete and maintain required licensing / T&C standards; agree and deliver development plans with the line manager.

- Scope is reflected in the overall insurance outcomes/portfolio growth of the PRMs/channels aligned.
- Complexity driven by client needs, product structures and regulatory requirements.
- Financial targets reflect the aggregated performance of the supported channels/PRMs.
Mandatory Requirements (Certifications, Qualifications & Experience)
- IRDAI Certification – Mandatory (as applicable to the market and role requirements).
- 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role or in insurance selling (protection-focused), preferably within banking/wealth or a comparable distribution model.
- Attain/maintain any additional professional or internal standards required
