We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Risk & Control Manager reporting to Senior Manager, Risk & Control.

 

Principal responsibilities

  • Manage Risk and Control Assessments covering non-financial and financial risks, working closely with other Hang Seng Insurance Business Units (BUs).
  • Support the ongoing embeddedness and continuous improvement of the HSBC risk management framework (e.g. trigger management, control design, and assessment of operating effectiveness).
  • Assist BUs in identifying, escalating, and managing issues/incidents, including supporting root cause analysis and the development of practical remediation plans with clear, achievable timelines to prevent recurrence.
  • Embed risk and control considerations into change initiatives (e.g. new products, process changes, technology releases) to support safe launches and deployments.
  • Operate within the governance framework to help BUs maintain clear visibility of emerging risks and incident trends, enabling proactive and timely responses.
  • Engage with 2LoD and 3LoD teams as appropriate, acting as a key point of contact to support Operations management in progressing remediation for higher-risk findings and helping prevent repeat issues.
  • Support control strengthening and cost efficiency opportunities in line with market conditions, client demand, and service expectations; contribute to controls reviews for key strategic change programmes within remit to help optimise control design and minimise transformation risk.
  • Partner with business lines and peers to support delivery of the Hang Seng Insurance strategy for risk reduction.
  • Coordinate the production of risk and control management reporting and support the communication of key findings and recommendations to relevant senior stakeholders.
  • Support the management of conduct, conflict of interest, market abuse, and other regulatory-related risks for Hang Seng Insurance.
  • Contribute to risk culture interventions (e.g. communications, training/briefings, lessons learned from incidents, thematic insights) to strengthen behaviours and control discipline.

 

Requirements

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in insurance or banking, with exposure to risk management, internal controls, audit and sound knowledge of retail banking, investment markets, insurance products and regulations, operational risk management, control monitoring or other related areas
  • Working knowledge of risk and control methodologies and tools, including RCA, control testing/assurance, issue & incident management, and control monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, assess, and improve controls, with confidence to provide constructive challenge and recommend pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience producing clear, decision-useful MI and reporting (e.g. dashboards, trend analysis), translating complex risk topics into actionable outcomes.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, able to collaborate across Business Units and functions and influence outcomes through clear communication and credibility.
  • Experience supporting audit and/or regulatory engagements, including tracking actions and supporting timely remediation and closure.
  • Strong ownership mindset, well-organised and delivery-focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Positive, logical problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (written and spoken).
  • Professional qualifications such as Enhanced Competency Framework (ECF) and/or Certified Banker (CB) under Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) would be an advantage.
