Credit & Capital Management (CCM) under Coporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) are introducing a new first-line credit management office, the Business Credit Office (BCO), as a key component of a new end-to-end operating model.
The BCO function will be responsible for first-line credit risk, creating a single client facing and customer service orientated control point for all Credit and Lending (C&L) tasks. These responsibilities include structuring, credit analysis and rating recommendations, client credit monitoring tasks, credit terms and document negotiation.
Joining the newly formed BCO team as an Associate Director, you will report directly to the Head of Business Credit Office Victoria and will be responsible for ensuring exemplary risk management and control standards are embedded within the end-to-end C&L process. In doing so, you will implement a reliable underwriting and lending process, balancing protection of the business with clients’ borrowing needs. You will work closely with the Coverage and Transaction Support teams to ensure seamless customer experience and consistency of service globally.
In taking on this role, you will be a strategic thinker, an effective collaborator, client centric and a skilled stakeholder manager to partner with Coverage and transaction support teams, successfully navigating a complex landscape to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
This is an opportunity to use your expertise in credit capital management to join the Business Credit Office function in Australia from its inception, working closely with the Head of BCO, Victoria. As an experienced member of the team, you will lead complex deals and support the culture and performance of the team by example, with a balance of responsible risk and commerciality, to build a foundation for success.
Responsibilities:
- As an experienced member of the team, leading and managing the end-to-end credit and capital management process for seamless customer and stakeholder experiences, particularly for more complex deals.Delivery of BCO tasks as aligned with agreed objectives and key results (OKRs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Driving continuous improvement in credit analysis activities and team productivity, including adoption of technology/digital and customer experience improvement initiatives, aligned to a globally consistent credit and lending operating model, to improve client experience acting on analysis of client feedback.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships and credibility across the organisation, in particular with both the Coverage and Risk teams.
- Fostering a culture of compliance, identifying and anticipating all types of risks, identifying trends, participating in deal discussions with clients / credit risk and engaging in constructive dialogue with risk partners to balance commercial outcomes and risk management.
- Working with the Head of BCO to escalate and resolve credit and lending (C&L) related risks and issues, ensuring robust credit risk management controls and MI is in place, protecting the bank as First Line of Defence.
- Working with senior management and Regional Sustainability Champions on Net Zero transition and strategic initiatives.
- Lead by example to build a culture balancing both commercial and client/customer outcomes, while aligning to Group compliance policy and representing the BCO in management committees and stakeholder meetings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across credit analysis activities to deliver a high and consistent standard.

Requirements:
- Substantial experience in credit and capital management, with a strong background in managing loan portfolios.
- A proven track record in leading deals, able to build relationships with senior stakeholders, navigating complexity and driving alignment.
- Knowledge of Capital Markets Advisory products is essential.
- Expertise in credit risk management and control assessment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact with clients and provide outstanding client service.
- Demonstrated track record, leading by example, demonstrating responsible risk culture behaviour and constructive support of the broader team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
