Real Estate Finance is a specialist team with primary responsibility for relationships involving Commercial Real Estate investors and developers. The adopted strategy of ‘by Professionals, to Professionals’ results in our customer portfolios being comprised of professional operators and market leaders in their sectors.
Real Estate is a key market for the UK economy and a material contributor to UK Commercial Banking. Housing has been specifically identified as an important growth area amongst others to support the banks net zero execution plan (NZEP). Real Estate Finance brings together the fundamental skills of relationship management, large corporate lending, risk management and partner engagement, with the added complexity of a highly political and cyclical property industry.
The Real Estate Finance (REF) business offers an outstanding opportunity to a prospective candidate to undertake a key role within a core sector for both HSBC and the markets in which it operates.
We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join the team in the role of Relationship Director.
The Relationship Director role provides dedicated relationship management to a portfolio of customers, with accountability for sales, service, risk, and operational delivery.
In this role, you will:
- Maximise profitably by identifying customer needs first and then recommending appropriate solutions for the customer to consider and accept, whilst providing holistic relationship management with accountability for business development, service, risk, and operational delivery.
- Be an ambassador for HSBC and develop the bank’s profile in the local business and wider community.
- Supporting customers and placing their needs at the forefront of all that we do, setting world class standards.
- Seeking new opportunities and nurturing existing relationships to identify new business opportunities.
- Building a network of business introducers in the local professional and business community.
- Adhere to structures and processes in place for the management of credit, operational, reputation, financial crime, and regulatory risk.
- Build a strong understanding of the client's business and industry to promote insights, enrich client conversations and deliver fair outcomes.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

- First class relationship management skills are essential, with a proven track record in a corporate client focused environment and an ability to anticipate clients’ needs and tailor service delivery to them.
- Excellent knowledge of UK Real Estate sector together with an understanding of the Housing Sector. Excellent Knowledge of Bank products, and services, along with knowledge of structured banking transactions, syndicated loans, private placements, bonds and global capital markets is essential.
- Strong ability to manage the competing priorities of deal flows, credit quality and the requirement to drive income is essential.
- Strong understanding of all areas of risk management and processes.
- Knowledge of changing economic, social, and governmental environment and industries/sectors in the UK.
- Strong ability to make connections between risk vs. reward, business process management, strategic implementation, reputational and people risks.
- Personal qualities of stability, maturity and authority and an ability to work with colleagues at all levels, with strong ‘team’ skills promoting an environment of co-operation and trust, overcoming resistance where encountered.
- Excellent prioritising, organisation, decision making and time management abilities, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with excellent influencing skills and ability to builds positive working relationships with our customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
This hybrid role. We would welcome applications from candidates seeking a role based in either Manchester, or Birmingham. There will be a requirement to be office based for 3 days a week or visiting clients, it is therefore important that the successful candidate can travel for client and departmental meetings.
