The opportunity: Associate, Institutional Client Group – Permanent contract

At HSBC, our purpose is opening up a world of opportunity and by joining our team, you can be part of something bigger. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible.

Being part of HSBC in Luxembourg, you’ll help evolve and grow our institutional banking business by originating, developing and managing relationships with leading financial institutions. Do you have experience managing institutional client relationships? Do you understand transaction banking products and services? Can you build trusted relationships while managing risk, coordinating stakeholders and delivering sustainable results?

If you answered yes to these questions, we want to hear from you!

What you will do:

You will manage and grow a portfolio of Luxembourg-registered subsidiaries of international institutional clients, including asset managers, hedge funds and sponsors.

You will originate and coordinate opportunities across HSBC’s capabilities, with particular emphasis on Cash Management (GPS) and Securities Services (SSv), while identifying opportunities across Global Markets (GM), Credit & Lending and Asset Management. Working closely with product teams, risk partners and HSBC’s international network, you will deliver tailored, coordinated solutions and build long-term client value.

In this role, you will (but not limited to):

  • Manage and develop an existing portfolio of institutional clients, grow sustainable revenues and originate New To Bank relationships, with increasing exposure to senior decision-makers.
  • Act as the principal point of coordination between clients, their headquarters, home-country Global Relationship Managers and relevant product teams to deepen relationships and deliver a consistent client experience.
  • Define and execute client strategies focused on revenue generation, disciplined capital deployment, cross-selling and long-term value creation, while monitoring portfolio performance and applying appropriate risk-based pricing.
  • Support Senior Relationship Managers with their client base, including preparing credit proposals, portfolio management and KYC renewals.
  • Develop a deep understanding of clients’ businesses, credit structures, and financial crime-related risks.
  • Collaborate effectively with key product partners and functional teams, including Wholesale Client Services, Client Operations, Credit Analysts Unit, Risk, Legal and Client Documentation teams, to deliver a coordinated, responsive, and positive client experience.

You should apply if you have:

  • Relevant experience in Corporate and Institutional Banking, ideally in relationship coverage, a product team or the treasury or markets division of a financial institution, with the ability to engage confidently with corporate and institutional clients.
  • Strong understanding of financial institutions and transaction banking products, particularly Cash Management and Payment Solutions (GPS), Securities Services (SSv) and Global Markets (GM), with familiarity across credit and investment solutions.
  • Knowledge of onboarding, KYC and CDD processes.
  • Strong IT skills, with the ability to produce quality presentations and other materials for client meetings and pitches (Copilot, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Proven commercial judgement and the ability to build long-term client relationships, communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and operate successfully in a demanding international environment.
  • Strong execution capabilities, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities; experience conducting credit analysis of funds and drafting credit applications would be an advantage.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; knowledge of French or German would be an advantage.

Even if you feel you do not meet 100% of our qualifications, we encourage you to apply if you believe this role is right for you.

What you’ll get in return:
