The opportunity: Asset Management Senior Risk Manager – Permanent contract

At HSBC, our purpose is opening up a world of opportunity and by joining our team, you can be part of something bigger. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible.

Being part of HSBC in Luxembourg, you’ll help evolve and grow our Asset Management business. Do you have experience overseeing investment risks in a UCITS fund environment? Are you confident interpreting regulatory requirements and strengthening risk-management frameworks? Can you communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and provide practical, business-focused solutions?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we want to hear from you!

What you will do:

HSBC Investment Funds Luxembourg (HIFL) is the management company for the Luxembourg-domiciled investment funds of HSBC Asset Management. As Senior Risk Manager, you will hold the permanent risk management function for UCITS with the CSSF. You will represent the Chief Risk Officer as a delegated representative at relevant committees and Board meetings, while serving as a trusted point of reference for risk and investment monitoring on Luxembourg and Irish market practices and regulatory risk matters.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee investment risks: Monitor market, liquidity, counterparty, sustainability and credit risks. Escalate concerns to senior management and provide reporting on findings.
  • Strengthen the investment risk framework: Streamline HIFL’s risk processes, procedures, oversight framework and reporting, identifying practical opportunities for improvement.
  • Strengthen the enterprise (entity) risk management framework: Provide 2nd line of defense oversight and subject matter expertise. Constructively challenge how risks are managed to ensure aggregate exposure stays within appetite.
  • Provide regulatory expertise: Assess assets eligibility under Luxembourg and Irish UCITS regulations, monitor regulatory developments, evaluate their impact on HIFL and recommend appropriate action plans.
  • Lead governance and reporting: Prepare materials and documentation for the Local Management Committee, Risk Management Meeting and Investment Oversight Meeting; follow up actions with investment advisers and risk teams and actively participate in these forums.
  • Represent HIFL externally: Deputise for the CRO at Luxembourg industry meetings, working groups and forums, acting as a senior representative on risk related matters.
  • Support leadership and capability building: Help the CRO and Conducting Officer meet the regulatory reporting and risk-governance standards, while coaching and guiding junior colleagues on investment risk and investment restrictions monitoring.

You should apply if you have:

  • Strong technical expertise in financial risk management, including VaR models and back-testing, stress testing, leverage, sustainability and liquidity risk measures.
  • A sound understanding of financial instruments including the ability to constructively challenge active portfolio managers.
  • Deep understanding of the Luxembourg fund industry, including the UCITS and AIFMD regulatory landscape, risk regulatory requirements and the obligations of a Luxembourg AIFM.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex risk exposures clearly and build effective relationships.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A forward-looking and business-oriented mindset, with strong problem-solving skills.

Even if you feel you do not meet 100% of our qualifications, we encourage you to apply if you believe this role is right for you.

What you’ll get in return:
