We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Vice President/Associate, Chief Operating Officer (COO), for the Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) business in Europe and Americas. The role holder will be based in London.

Role Purpose

The role of Vice President Chief Operating Office (VP COO), CMA Europe and Americas holds a critical leadership role in supporting and growing the business both strategically and operationally day to day. The role is multi-functional crossing all COO disciplines and applies expert industry/product knowledge front to back. It is a key partner to the Regional/Product Head to deliver the business strategy as well as facilitating the business front to back within agreed risk appetite.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Head of CMA for Europe & Americas to design and execute the strategy in line with local markets, regulators, and the risk & control agenda
  • The role holder will be assigned responsibility to cover CMA products and coverage teams and will partner with regional / global CMA COO teams, business heads and regional / global risk teams
  • Work with the business heads and regional COO to facilitate the provision of timely and insightful business performance data that supports strategy execution, based on globally consistent metrics and data sources, and informed by local market dynamics
  • Oversee day to day operations, regularly review effectives and efficiency of delivery.  Drive innovation as well as continuous improvement; provide constructive challenge where needed to ensure adoption of global consistency and simplification in policies & procedures
  • Lead collaboration initiatives as appropriate with other parts of CMA, CIB and HSBC Group, eg. Regions, Private Wealth and Asset Management
  • Prepare all relevant presentations, marketing and comms, aligned with Global strategy to ensure clear communication of the CIB and CMA strategy across stakeholder groups
  • Partnership with Regional COO team, technology, and business stakeholders to i) automate / digitise / simplify, ii) deliver on regulatory commitments and iii) drive the growth in strategic areas
  • Ensure programmes align with CIB and Group’s broader transformation strategies, leveraging existing workstreams where relevant
  • Engage with key stakeholders including bankers, clients and product leads to prioritize investments that maximize client impact over time.

 

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Desire and ability to travel to our Continental Europe offices. Ability to speak French highly desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of Capital Markets & Advisory related products, coverage teams and clients
  • Proactive and Eager to Learn: A self-starter with a growth mindset, eager to take ownership of tasks and learn from senior colleagues
  • Very strong analytical and presentation skills, with excellent grasp of PowerPoint / excel / word and ability to distil large quantities of information into key themes / issues and recommendations and excellent English language capabilities. Ability to process high volumes of complex information and ability to summarize key themes and issues
  • Strong prioritization and control skills, with ability to review and acknowledge when and how to reprioritize, mitigate, or escalate. Practical experience in managing few complex projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced, ambiguous environment, whilst setting and managing realistic expectations and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with capacity to work with senior teams and ability to interact at all levels of the organization
  • Clear understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements and can ensure the highest global standards of control apply across Capital Markets & Advisory
  • The role holder would benefit from experience in one or more of the business lines in CIB. Also, it would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of products and client propositions across these businesses
  • Budget & cost management experience as well as Project Management and delivery experience is beneficial
  • Excellent English and French language capabilities both written and oral
