The team you’ll work with:
The Warehouse Lending (WHL) team sits at the heart of HSBC Innovation Banking’s Structured Finance platform, providing tailored asset-backed debt facilities to high-growth fintechs and non-bank lenders across the UK and Europe. We’re looking for a commercially astute and technically strong Vice President to support portfolio management.
This role is suitable for a proactive and committed professional who thrives in a fast growing and dynamic environment. It offers an excellent opportunity to enhance technical expertise, client engagement and deal management skills. The WHL team has a broad spectrum of skills developed from experience working at IBs, rating agencies, and specialist commercial banks.
The value you’ll add:
The candidate will be a key member of the Warehouse Finance Portfolio Management team, responsible for managing client relationships across an active portfolio of warehouse facilities and leading portfolio actions including amendments, waivers, consents and renewals. The role focuses on protecting and optimising risk-adjusted returns through proactive client engagement, portfolio insight, and effective navigation of internal governance, working closely with Associates who support covenant testing and routine monitoring.
What you can expect to be doing:
Client relationship & portfolio stewardship
- Be the main day-to-day contact for a portfolio of clients, building strong working relationships and ensuring facilities run smoothly from the client perspective (reporting, utilisation, consents and queries)
- Stay close to each client’s objectives, evolving lending strategy, upcoming funding needs and performance, translating this into clear portfolio priorities and actions
- Lead regular performance discussions, balancing commercial outcomes with disciplined risk management, and partner with Relationship Managers to develop and execute Relationship Plans
Amendments, waivers, consents & renewals
- Lead amendments, waivers, consents and renewals end-to-end: agree requests with clients, assess credit and structural impacts, align internal stakeholders, and drive approvals and documentation through to completion
- Find practical solutions to changes in eligibility criteria, concentration limits, advance rates, reporting requirements and triggers. Own internal governance by producing clear, high-quality credit papers with well-reasoned recommendations
Portfolio insight, risk identification & escalation
- Use portfolio data and client engagement to identify early warning signals and emerging risks, assess credit risk at client and portfolio level, and drive mitigation and escalation where required. Provide oversight of covenant and reporting processes, prioritising key issues and stepping in on exceptions, breaches and higher-impact items
- Collate key themes and client updates for portfolio reviews and 2LOD engagement, clearly highlighting what’s working well and what needs attention
Operational partnership
- Liaise with Operations, Legal and internal teams to ensure amendments and ongoing facility requirements operate effectively in practice (drawdowns, reporting flows, booking accuracy and controls). Improve processes, templates and approval packs to reduce turnaround times and keep delivery consistent across the portfolio
Coaching, quality and team contribution
- Coach Associates/Senior Associates on portfolio management, including reporting analysis, compliance processes, amendment assessment and credit paper drafting
Requirements:
- Extensive prior experience in structured finance / warehouse or asset-backed lending, with strong exposure to client-facing portfolio management and credit governance
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex amendment/waiver/renewal processes end-to-end, influencing stakeholders across Credit, Legal and Operations
- Strong credit skills and analytical capability including collateral/portfolio analysis and comfort working with borrowing base and cashflow concepts
- Proven ability to run governance processes with high attention to detail (covenants, reporting, approvals, audit trail)
- Confident communicator who can influence stakeholders across Credit, Legal, Operations, Business Risk and coverage teams
- Strong written skills for credit papers, approvals, and portfolio review materials
