London, GB, E14 5HQ
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice President, Portfolio Structuring and Optimisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation, execution and management of non-payment insurance (credit risk insurance) and other similar forms of risk-sharing agreements. As a Vice President in the team, you’ll lead the end-to-end execution of non-payment insurance transactions. You’ll also be responsible for optimising the bank’s balance-sheet, managing regulatory capital and deepening relationships with insurers and brokers. This role requires a blend of technical structuring expertise, regulatory knowledge (CRR/Basel IV) and strong commercial leadership.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you’ll:
- Lead end-to-end execution of Non-Payment Insurance (NPI) transactions: identify opportunities, assess feasibility, structure, price, negotiate, document, execute and monitor post-trade
- Translate portfolio and single-name risk objectives into effective insurance solutions (coverage terms, exclusions, claims mechanics and operational requirements)
- Design and size transactions to deliver measurable outcomes (RWA/capital relief, concentration reduction, limit headroom and improved RoRWA)
- Partner with Front Office, Credit Risk and Capital Management to prioritise assets/portfolios and optimise timing, sizing and distribution strategy
- Drive internal approvals and governance across Credit, Capital, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Treasury and senior forums with clear, decision-ready materials
- Ensure regulatory and policy alignment (CRR/Basel IV) and coordinate with Regulatory Capital, Model teams and Risk to evidence eligibility, reporting and audit readiness
- Build and manage strategic relationships with insurers, reinsurers and brokers; run market processes and secure optimal commercial terms while monitoring appetite and counterparty risk
- Oversee policy wording and lifecycle management, including premium/endorsement processes, claims and recoveries, covenant compliance, renewals, controls and audit/regulatory support
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven experience executing credit risk transfer / non-payment insurance (or similar risk-sharing solutions) in a bank, insurer, broker or advisory
- Strong structuring capability across single-name and portfolio transactions, translating risk objectives into clear commercial terms
- Working knowledge of regulatory capital/RWAs and credit risk mitigation recognition under CRR/Basel IV
- Strong commercial skills, including negotiating term sheets/policy wording and securing capacity and pricing
- Effective stakeholder management across Risk, Credit/Capital Management, Front Office, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Treasury and Operations, including governance navigation
- Strong control mindset and attention to detail across documentation and lifecycle management (endorsements, renewals, claims)
- Strong analytical and communication skills, able to quantify impacts and produce concise, senior-ready materials (Excel/PowerPoint)
- Delivery-focused, pragmatic and collaborative leader; cross-border experience and insurer/broker network are advantageous
