The Role
Tax Director - CIB Europe is a senior tax business partnering role, providing oversight, advisory and governance for Corporate and Institutional Banking across multiple European jurisdictions. You’ll act as the senior tax contact for CIB Europe, helping the business deliver commercial outcomes in line with HSBC’s tax risk appetite, control framework and applicable laws and standards. The role includes people management responsibility with two direct reports. Success means translating complex tax issues into clear options and recommendations, shaping decisions across products, transactions and operating model change. This role is based in London on a hybrid working basis.
What you'll be doing
- Act as the primary Tax partner for CIB Europe senior stakeholders across Coverage, Product, COO, Finance, Legal, Risk and Compliance
- Provide pragmatic tax advice across CIB activity, including cross-border transactions, client structures, financing and markets activity and operating model considerations
- Translate technical tax issues into clear options, risks and recommendations to support front-to-back decision-making
- Shape tax input into material change programmes, new products, business initiatives and process and operating model changes impacting CIB Europe
- Maintain oversight of tax risk across CIB Europe, including identifying, assessing, documenting, escalating and progressing remediation of issues
- Govern tax advisory and oversight activities in line with HSBC’s tax risk appetite, control framework and applicable laws and standards
- Set direction and priorities for the CIB Europe Tax partnering team, managing capacity across competing demands
- Coach and develop team members to support consistent, high-quality advice and governance updates
What we're looking for
- Hold CTA, ACA, ACCA or local equivalent certification or bring equivalent demonstrable experience
- Bring corporate and international tax experience within financial services, including multi-jurisdictional European considerations
- Demonstrate in-house tax experience within a Financial Services institution or a blend of in-house and FS tax experience gained in a Big Four firm
- Apply a strong understanding of tax risk management, governance and control frameworks in an audit and regulatory environment
- Influence senior stakeholders and provide clear, actionable advice across business and control functions
- Communicate complex topics clearly in writing, including papers, advice notes and governance updates
- Oversee competing priorities and deliver timely, pragmatic outcomes across a broad CIB agenda
- Manage and develop a small team, including setting direction and supporting capability growth
