We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Strategic Communications Lead, Climate.
The role will steer the development and implementation of HSBC’s climate communications strategy, with a primary focus on the transition to net zero. The role holder will be responsible for crafting and executing an integrated communications strategy that effectively articulates HSBC’s approach to net zero transition to a range of audiences, while managing risks.

In this role you will:
•Develop and implement strategic communications approach, considering multiple stakeholders, that articulates HSBC’s role in the net zero transition.
•Ensure the communications strategy aligns with HSBC’s broader sustainability goals and effectively manages the Group’s reputation on a complex issue.
•Establish a consistent and appropriately calibrated runway of climate-related communications across owned and earned channels, collaborating closely with other Group External Communications teams, Communications, Business and Markets, Global Brand, and Group Public Affairs.
•Provide expert guidance on both proactive and reactive messaging around key climate issues, ensuring consistency and alignment with HSBC’s strategic objectives.
•Anticipate and effectively manage key risks and reactive issues, working with relevant other external-facing teams to respond effectively and seek to mitigate reputational risk to the bank.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
•Demonstrate a global outlook and a passion for addressing complex challenges, particularly in the realm of sustainability and climate change.
•Possess the ability to craft and execute strategic communications plans that position HSBC appropriately on climate-related topics.
•Exhibit strong judgement and stakeholder understanding in developing messaging that resonates with diverse audiences across different regions and contexts.
•Possess or have the ability to rapidly develop strong subject matter expertise in climate change and the net zero transition, particularly as it pertains to the financial sector.
•Collaborate with business leaders to align communications strategies with business objectives and sustainability targets.
This role is based in London, Hybrid.
