Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking a professional to join our team in the role of Senior Securities Lending Trader (EMEA)

HSBC Agency Lending sits within HSBC Securities Services (SSv), part of the wider Markets and Securities Services business. Securities Services provides essential services to many of the world’s leading asset managers, asset owners, banks and broker-dealers. We help clients access markets, protect assets, manage risk and operate efficiently across increasingly complex and interconnected markets.

This role is based in London and is responsible for optimising client revenues through agency securities lending across equities, fixed income and cash assets, while maintaining a high level of client service and operating strictly within agreed client mandates and HSBC’s risk and governance framework. The role operates in a regulated environment and is subject to FCA rules, bank guidelines and relevant licensing requirements.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Manage and optimise an agency lending trading book across equities, fixed income and cash, including allocation of inventory to maximise risk-adjusted returns
  • Deliver against business performance targets, including counterparty/market revenue and balance targets, and monitor progress using benchmarking and performance tools
  • Monitor performance versus plan and recommend tactical changes to respond to market developments and evolving business priorities
  • Manage collateral and liquidity considerations, including short-term and longer-term cash liquidity needs, and contribute to target Return on Risk Weighted Assets (RoRWA) outcomes
  • Use securities lending and market systems effectively (e.g., Trading applications, Global 1, custody platforms (GCS/GHSS), Bloomberg); strong Excel proficiency expected (VBA/programming languages are beneficial)
  • Maintain a premier-quality client experience, taking personal accountability for timely responses and end-to-end ownership of stakeholder queries
  • Contribute ideas for new/enhanced lending products, using client and market feedback to support product development, client retention and revenue growth
  • Uphold high standards of ethics, conduct and governance, including compliance with trading limits, credit exposure frameworks, best execution and fair distribution requirements

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Strong experience in agency securities lending trading (or closely related markets activity such as secured financing/repo), ideally with EMEA market coverage
  • Proven ability to identify and execute revenue opportunities and implement effective trading strategies, including inventory, collateral and liquidity optimisation
  • Strong capability in securities lending pricing, including pricing methodologies and the drivers of demand and market dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain counterparty relationships across European market participants (e.g., prime brokers, broker-dealers, repo/funding desks) to maximise sustainable income streams
  • Strong risk management and governance discipline, with experience trading within limits and frameworks (e.g., trading limits, credit exposures, best execution and fair distribution) and escalating issues appropriately
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, counterparties and internal partners across regions
  • Strong analytical capability and attention to detail, with advanced Excel skills; VBA or other coding/statistical language capability is an advantage
