The UK Payments market is a vital component of the economy. It is central to our customers, making up the majority of interactions a customer has with their bank. Our Payments Industry Team covers our Payments Industry engagement across the UK. We engage externally with the UK Payments Industry, regulators, payment schemes and market infrastructures to ensure both HSBC Bank plc and HSBC UK fulfils its responsibilities to a range of stakeholders.

This role will support with the following:

  • Supporting the strategic change agenda for payments.
  • Pay.UK progression of short-term enhancements
  • The abolition of the PSR (Payments System Regulator) and re cast of payments regulation into the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority)
  • A legislative update to the payment’s elements of the Payment Services Regulations and FSBRA (Financial Services Banking Reform Act)
  • BoE planned future roadmap for the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) and CHAPS, including 24x7 opening hours
  • Oversee HSBC compliance with payment scheme and regulatory requirements and data requests, specifically on Confirmation of Payee and the Specific Directions on APP Scams.

In this role you will:

  • Be a Subject matter expert on payments industry technical and regulatory knowledge, keeping pace with developments and change in the industry, with a particular focus on the National Payments Vision, new retail payments infrastructure and Delivery Company; as well as the Bank of England’s roadmap for RTGS and CHAPS.
  • Day-to-day oversight and management of the HSBC (HSBC UK Bank plc and HSBC Bank plc) relationship and engagement with the UK payments industry, regulators and market infrastructures to ensure HSBC fulfils its responsibilities to the many stakeholders in the payments industry given its importance to the UK economy
  • Represent HSBC at key industry committees, working groups, forums, and events
  • Brief senior and executive management on payment industry and regulatory developments supporting strong alignment and collaboration cross-entity for payment related activity.
  • Provide Payments Industry and regulation expertise within relevant internal committees and forums.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong understanding of the Payments industry, awareness of the big change drivers
  • Proven stakeholder management is essential
  • Ability to demonstrate advocacy
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relations with external organisations, presenting complex issues confidently and concisely to diverse stakeholders, including executives and regulators.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience of delivering to a varied audience by influencing and driving decisions in a concise and effective manner.
