Reporting to our Global Head of Money Mules & First Party Fraud you’ll play a key role in developing our global strategies and building real-time detection capabilities, using advanced machine learning analytics and latest digital fraud fighting technologies. You’ll have opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders across geographies and lead cross-functional teams (IT, analytics, operations) to deliver right outcomes for the business.

Our Fraud and Credit Services team is a first line of defence control function in Wealth & Personal Banking (WPB), with the core purpose of supporting the entire Customer credit journey and creating sustainable outcomes for the Customer and the Bank and managing internal and external fraud threats within agreed risk appetite. It is responsible for processing c. 10m credit applications, risk assessing over 4b credit and fraud transactions, and managing around $1.5b of credit and fraud losses annually. The overall scope covers oversight of around 9,000 employees across the world, a direct expense base of c. $370m, and a technology transformation budget of c. $100m. 

The global WPB fraud strategic vision is to keep our customers safe from fraud and money mule risks, whilst delivering the best possible customer experience. We will achieve this through continuous investment in the analytical and technological capabilities required to address top and emerging risks, without creating unreasonable customer friction, and organizing ourselves in a way that promotes great customer outcomes in a cost-effective way. 

 

In this role you will:

  • Opportunity to develop global strategies spanning across HSBC markets and build out latest real-time detection controls to combat growing fraud and money mule risks.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (combining technology, analytics, and operations) to deliver critical financial crime fighting capabilities in multiple geographies.
  • Review money mule & fraud risk controls across markets and ensure capabilities remain fit for purpose with changing external risk patterns and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate latest external vendor technologies and develop business cases for their implementation across HSBC markets.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders and financial crime stewards to ensure appropriate business outcomes are achieved within risk appetites and budgets.

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing or managing risk control capabilities, e.g. fraud, financial crime, digital or credit risk.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering major strategies/projects, collaborating cross-functional teams in transformation, analytics and operations and engaging with senior business stakeholders.
  • Broad understanding of financial crime risks within banking environments, preferably with relevant work experience in a fraud or financial crime risk management function.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a cross functional team to overcome challenges and deliver business goals.

 

This is a hybrid role and can be based in London or Birmingham
