The Enterprise Risk Management function is hiring for an exciting Senior Manager opportunity that will have a prime focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The use of AI, including increasingly generative and agentic AI, is growing across the financial services sector, including at HSBC. As a bank we want to embrace the efficiency and functionality benefits that AI can bring to us and our customers, while carefully and effectively managing the associated risks. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring risks from the use of AI (AI risk) across HSBC Group globally is managed, embedded into the wider HSBC Risk Management Framework and adheres to the defined standards as per the appropriate frameworks, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:
- Be responsible for key elements of the developing HSBC’s risk management framework to effectively address the use of AI across the Group.
- Help ensure HSBC can effectively govern, identify, measure and manage risks from the use of AI (AI Risk) and provide a common language to manage and understand AI risk.
- Provide technical advice and support globally to ensure stakeholders understand and are aware of the policy requirements, control environment and assessment of AI Risk globally.
- Actively monitor the internal and external environment to get early sight of emerging AI risks and provide detailed guidance on controls required to mitigate against them.
- Participate in regulatory and audit engagement pertaining to AI risk; work with Regulatory Compliance and 1 Line of Defence to ensure regulatory compliance for AI Risk requirements, and timely completion of audit actions and findings.
- Support training and capability uplift for key stakeholders to ensure robust understanding and management of AI Risk.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Understands the functionality and risks of AI use, and the impact within HSBC Group and its commercial context and strategic ambitions.
- Prior experience developing /using/assessing AI, ideally with additional understanding of suitable controls.
- Experience in Policy/Regulation/Risk within the first, second or third line of defence.
- A good level of knowledge of AI use in financial services and the AI regulatory landscape, and ability to access the impact on HSBC.
- Ability to provide expert advice, analysis and robust challenge, on detalied risk and control issues.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills to communicate complex issues clearly and confidently.
- Effective stakeholder management skills to deal with a range of stakeholders across the business involved in AI, with the ability to negotiate, convince, and get collective buy-in on high profile issues.
This role is based in London on a hybrid working basis.
