Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Liquidity Risk Manager.

This Senior Liquidity Risk Manager role is a high‑visibility 2nd line of defence (2LOD) opportunity in HSBCUK Treasury Risk, giving you real influence over how the ring-fenced bank manages liquidity and funding resilience against both day‑to‑day demands and stress events. You’ll provide independent oversight and credible challenge across the liquidity risk framework—risk appetite, stress testing, forecasting and regulatory reporting—working closely with Treasury, Finance and wider stakeholders to strengthen governance, controls and regulatory compliance. It’s a chance to shape best practice, anticipate emerging risks, and help protect customers and the franchise by ensuring the bank can meet its obligations through different market conditions, while building strong senior stakeholder exposure and a clear platform for broader Treasury/ALM and leadership progression.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Provide independent risk oversight of liquidity and funding risk management over first line activities
  • Monitor the horizon for regulatory developments and best practice across relevant peer competitors the risk domain
  • Review, challenge and shape an evolving Liquidity and Funding Risk Appetite for the entity to support the articulation of risks we are willing to accept in pursuit of our strategy
  • Lead the 2LOD review of the Internal Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP)
  • Independently analyse and challenge 1st Line of Defence (1LOD) assumptions, scenarios, and BAU and stress plans, including funding, capacity, and deposit stability
  • Shape, review, and challenge Risk & Control Assessments (RCAs), and ensure issues are raised and addressed at relevant governance forums
  • Contribute to governance meetings and ensure second-line risk feedback is promptly recorded and actioned.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong experience in liquidity and funding risk within a UK retail bank, gained in the first and/or second line of defence
  • Proven ability to challenge Treasury or business assumptions, stress-testing models and liquidity strategies
  • Practical experience preparing, reviewing or contributing to the Internal Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP)
  • Strong knowledge of PRA liquidity and funding requirements, including the Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) and Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR).
