Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a professional to join the Global Payment Solutions team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel, on a part time 12 month fixed term contract, working as part of a job share, with a focus on customer E Channels with banking, corporate, commercial and IT/Digital law concepts. Having a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates would be beneficial but not essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payments/digital lawyer with a curious and commercial mindset, seeking a balanced, flexible role which will entail providing high-quality strategic advice in a seamless manner with their job share partner.

 

 

In this role, you will.

 

  • Be an accountable lawyer to the executives of the area on material legal issues faced by the business and advise relevant Management on non-standard legal, and conduct and reputational risks.
  • Execute against relevant policies and procedures for GPS Client Connectivity to ensure that Legal's role in the second line of defence can be executed
  • Provide SME legal support to other legal teams on escalations related to customer negotiations on E-Channels documentation and support the Global GPS Client Connectivity business, work with the customer groups globally to provide legal advice, guidance and support in relation to E-Channels
  • Ensure that E-Channel related legal implications and risks of products, systems, transactions, projects and initiatives are effectively understood by the relevant business areas
  • Evaluating and responding to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they arise
  • Provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risk of the relevant area are identified, reported and mitigated

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements.

 

  • Qualified lawyer with experience of banking, corporate/commercial and IT/Digital law concepts and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates would be beneficial but not essential
  • A keen curiosity and willingness to learn more in general and in particular about the multijurisdictional and regulatory environment is a pre-requisite. With Up-to-date knowledge of developments in digital payments and online payments systems would be desirable  
  • Be a proactive self-starter, able to follow through on delivery with appropriate support.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively, often against the backdrop of changing facts and stakeholder demands.
  •  A collaborative teammate able to flex their style to work with others, but also a self-starter who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial drive.

 

The base location for this role is London with a hybrid working pattern (working Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to ensure full coverage of the role).
