The Role and team
The HSBC Innovation Banking UK (HINV UK), Financial Crime Risk & Controls (FCRC) team is a First Line of Defence (FLOD) team responsible for identifying, investigating and monitoring relationships that pose a money laundering or terrorist financing risk in support of all legal and regulatory requirements relating to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorism financing. FCRC also has responsibility for reviewing and assessing Sanctions, Anti-Bribery & Corruption (AB&C), Tax Transparency, Fraud and Reputational Risk considerations for both existing clients and new prospects.
The HINV UK Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) team is specialist team ringfenced within FCRC and focuses specifically on clients and prospects within the following categories: Money Service Businesses (MSBs), Third Party Payment Processors (TPPPs), Crowdfunding, Gaming / Gambling and Digital Assets and Currencies (DACs)
Responsibilities:
Having End-to-end ownership of EDD reviews relating to MSB, TPPP and DAC existing and prospect client relationships that meet HSBC’s risk appetite, leading and driving cases through to completion in a timely manner.
Conducting in-depth virtual and onsite assessments of fintech client’s business model, product offering and financial crime frameworks, evaluating the overall risk and generating high quality EDD reports providing clear articulation of risk and recommendations.
Supporting population management of in-scope clients, maintenance of relevant MI and ad hoc risk assessments required outside of the EDD annual review cycle.
Supporting the preparation and delivery of case summaries, client escalations and MI to relevance governance and client-focused committees such as the Reputational Risk and Client Selection Committees or Fintech Forums, where required.
Serving as an SME for Relationship Teams to aid in identification of prospects & existing clients within Fintech, reviewing and conducting triage on cases to assess against HSBC’s risk appetite.
Building strong and effective relationships with key stakeholders such as Second Line of Defence teams to ensure that the risks identified across new and existing clients are appropriately understood and mitigated where appropriate.
Liaise with fintech clients with confidence and clarity to ensure the EDD process is understood, proactively following up with clients throughout the process within stated timeframes.
Supporting FCRC Senior Management with broader work including remedial activity or ad hoc projects.
Supporting change, proactively identifying and recommending enhancements to processes and procedures to ensure the firm remains compliant whilst aligning to a risk-based and agile approach.
Maintaining current industry awareness and demonstrating awareness and competence in relation to regulatory obligations.
Requirements (Skills/experience):
Strong working knowledge of financial crime and/or fraud prevention within the UK regulatory environment.
Experience related to financial crime compliance risk management processes.
Experience in understanding complex business models and products, with desired experience in understanding FinTechs, digital payment infrastructure or Digital Assets and Currencies.
Strong individual contributor with the ability to work effectively as a team
Able to demonstrate initiative and have strong verbal and written communication skills and report writing.
Good time management, attention to detail and analytical skills.
Able to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders across various business functions.
