Senior AI Architect
London, GB, E14 5HQ
Job description
Ready to shape HSBC’s Group AI platform architecture and GenAI adoption?
Why HSBC
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
As Group AI Architect (Director Level) you’ll shape the architecture direction for HSBC’s Group AI platform and accelerate safe and measured adoption of AI and GenAI across the organisation. Working as a key member of the AI leadership team within GCIO you’ll influence senior stakeholders across business lines and technology to align platform development to organisational strategy and priorities. You’ll set reference architectures and blueprints that cover data, models, compute, tooling, orchestration and governance across hybrid-cloud and on-premises environments. Success means reusable architectures and core AI capabilities that simplify consumption, meet regulatory expectations and embed ethical and responsible use. You’ll translate fast-moving industry trends into practical decisions that strengthen security, controls and long-term platform value.
What you'll be doing
- Engage senior stakeholders across GCIO, business lines and the AI leadership team to align AI platform architecture to strategy and priorities
- Set the Group AI platform reference architecture - logical and technical - across data, model, compute, tooling, orchestration and governance
- Create integration architecture covering connections to data, applications and APIs plus cloud and system telemetry (for example FinOps, data assets and model consumption)
- Define platform infrastructure blueprints across hybrid-cloud and on-premises compute, storage, networking, security and access
- Act as design authority for reusable AI products and architectures focused on core high-value use cases
- Own the capability roadmap for centrally engineered core AI capabilities and core AI tooling within architecture taxonomies
- Champion standards, principles and ethical-responsible use across HSBC Architecture and Engineering forums
- Support vendor evaluation through architecture review and proof of concept activity in partnership with the innovation function
What we're looking for
- Bring in-depth knowledge of GenAI and agentic AI architectures, frameworks and design patterns
- Demonstrate substantial hands-on engineering experience delivering AI and GenAI solutions into production
- You'll have been architecting AI itself, not things that use AI. This is key!
- Show strong experience designing scalable and resilient AI platforms including model lifecycle, tools, controls and AI capabilities
- Evidence senior architecture experience across large-scale complex and internationally regulated organisations
- Apply understanding of cybersecurity, data privacy, model risk, legal, compliance and control requirements for AI in financial services
- Translate AI and GenAI industry trends into practical architecture guidance, designs and reusable patterns
- Partner effectively with CTO technology domain owners to position core capabilities and products within roadmaps
- Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams to strengthen innovation and continuous improvement
Architecting HSBC’s AI Platform
This role sits at the centre of how HSBC builds and adopts AI at scale - from platform foundations through to reusable architectures that teams can consume safely. You’ll shape decisions that balance innovation with security, controls and regulatory expectations across a complex global environment. If you want to set the architectural direction for core AI capabilities and help embed responsible GenAI adoption across the bank we’d like to hear from you.
