Join HSBC’s International Wealth and Personal Banking (IWPB) Global Design Team and help shape exceptional digital experiences for millions of customers around the world. We're looking for a confident and collaborative Product Design Lead who can manage a small, high-performing team while challenging stakeholders and advocating for user-centred design across our banking products.
This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who can balance strategic direction with practical design work when needed. You’ll play a key role in aligning product design with customer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility, all while elevating the craft of design across a complex, fast-moving environment.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Product Design Lead.
In this role, you will:
- Define vision: Translate customer needs and business strategy into a compelling design vision that sets the direction for digital experiences across channels.
- Lead a team: Manage, mentor, and inspire a small team of designers, enabling them to do their best work and continuously raise the bar.
- Drive quality: Champion design excellence, ensure accessibility standards are met, and create consistent, high-quality experiences using established design systems.
- Collaborate & challenge: Partner with Product, Tech, and Research leads while confidently challenging assumptions, pushing back when needed, and representing the voice of the customer.
- Stay hands-on: Roll up your sleeves to guide and contribute to design work where needed, from wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Leadership experience: A background in managing and developing product designers, ideally in regulated or complex environments such as financial services.
- Proven design skills: A portfolio that demonstrates excellence across UX, UI, interaction, and visual design, along with measurable impact on users and business outcomes.
- Strategic mindset: The ability to think big while managing day-to-day delivery — balancing long-term vision with short-term needs.
- Effective communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trust across functions and regions.
- Design tool expertise: Deep knowledge of Figma and modern design practices, including working with design systems, accessibility guidelines, and inclusive design principles.
