HSBC Global Investment Research (GIR) is a ‘CIB client servicing and revenue generating’ global business unit, positioned as one of the key business lines of CIB. GIR is an independent research house with a strong focus on Emerging Markets (EMs). We have analysts covering 1,700+ companies, 60+ economies, 45+ sovereigns’ rates and 50+ currencies globally. In addition to partnering with the CIB clients, Global Research also collaborates with the rest of the Group businesses, such as IWPB. GIR is organised under three pillars, Global Economics, Macro Strategy, Equity Research which are enhanced by Sustainability, AI and Data Science, and Digital Asset research. 

We are currently hiring for an Analyst, Sustainability (Cross-Asset)

The successful applicant will produce insights on delivering a net-zero transition across three issues – emissions control, financing and inclusive resilience (how social equity issues are taking into account in a net-zero world), market the views to internal and external clients of the bank and contribute to regular publications and thematic research. The role holder will work on a daily basis with colleagues in HK, Bangalore, Dubai and London.

 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Global Head of Sustainability Research and Integration (based in Dubai) to drive profile of Sustainability research franchise, based on content excellence
  • Provide insights and demonstrate service traction with institutional, corporate and wealth clients, measured by internal and external feedback
  • Design and develop innovative analytical sustainability performance metrics in partnership with cross-asset colleagues
  • Produce insights on sustainability linked macro and company variables, such as carbon intensity of energy, energy intensity of growth, and CO2 metrics for companies
  • Write research reports on developments in the wider economy (e.g. trade tariffs) and their linkages to the three issues most relevant to the Sustainability franchise (emissions control, finance, inclusive resilience)
  • Actively collaborate with researchers from other asset classes and markets to leverage HSBC EM expertise
  • Raise profile of HSBC Sustainability Investment Research franchise to internal and external stakeholders

 

Skills and experience required

  • High level experience in a sustainability linked role (financial markets linked is a plus)
  • A strong understanding of sustainability concepts and financial markets
  • Analytical reasoning
  • Excellent written & verbal communication / presentation skills
  • Hands on intermediate to advanced excel skills
  • Ability to forward plan and collaborate to deliver research output linked to external events agenda and macro factors, ability to operate under pressure, multi-task, and be driven to both work in a global team environment and autonomously
  • Proficient in written and spoken English, ability to sell ideas
