Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are seeking an Investment Manager for HSBC Ventures.

In this exciting role, you’ll join a corporate venture team that invests in emerging companies shaping the future of Financial Services. You’ll lead deals from origination to execution, then help portfolio companies scale through one of the world’s leading banks, bringing partnerships, distribution and strategic connectivity.

If you’re passionate about venture investing and practical value creation, and you like applying AI-driven methods to make smarter investment decisions, this role is built for you.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role, you will:

  • Source and build a pipeline of relevant investment opportunities, leveraging AI-enabled sourcing and sector deep-dives
  • Lead the evaluation of investments opportunities with detailed quantitative/qualitative analysis using AI tools, including AI-specific diligence where relevant
  • Oversee preparation of investment papers (leveraging AI tools) and manage internal stakeholders and approval processes
  • Lead execution, including term negotiation, legals, due diligence and approvals
  • Monitor portfolio company performance, run AI-enabled portfolio reviews, and support portfolio companies (connectivity inside HSBC, fundraisings, exits, internal/external support)

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

  • Venture capital / Growth equity investment experience, with strong understanding of how early-stage companies operate and scale
  • Strong knowledge of AI, fintech, enterprise software and data sectors and ability to translate technical findings into investment recommendations
  • Financial analysis toolkit knowledge: research, financial modelling, and company valuation experience; able to run sector deep-dives and use AI tools throughout
  • Comfortable with term negotiation, legal process management, diligence and investment committee-style approvals
  • Strong internal/external relationship building, ideally with an existing network of FinTech’s and relevant investors; excellent communication

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we’re dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic background or age. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
