We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Research Management & Front Office Market Data.

The Investment function within HSBC Asset Management is responsible for all discretionary fund management activities with HSBC and is the core of the business. The team is a global team based in over 15 countries with major offices currently in London, Hong Kong, New York, Paris & Dusseldorf.  Currently the function numbers around 550 people. As part of its overall location strategy the division is looking to set up an office in Birmingham.  Initially this will be around 10 staff but over time it is expected that the team in Birmingham will number 30-40 in total. Indeed, if the strategy is successful this may be significantly more.  The site will include staff members across all areas of the Investment function but will be dominated by investment Analysts.  We are looking to hire an individual to be the local lead for the site and also over the first few years as the team builds up to support directly and help lead the Global Analytics team.  The Global Analytics team are a team of highly analytical, self-driven and intellectual individuals who globally support the investment function and whose analysis & systems drive our core investment & decision-making processes.  This is a very important and senior role that will report directly into the global CIO office and be fundamental in driving through this significant project as well as having wide ranging management responsibility.

The Head of Research Management & Front Office Market Data is a senior operations/service-lead role responsible for the end-to-end “run” of research content delivery and internal consumption by the research and portfolio management teams. Accountable for the operating model and control environment around research servicing (audit readiness, evidence, monitoring). Ensure compliance with relevant research-related rules (e.g., conflicts management, embargo/lock-up handling, information barriers, record-keeping, licensing/permissions) in line with applicable Functional Instruction Manuals (FIM) and local regulations. Acts as the key point of contact between Research authors/management and downstream consumers (sales, trading, relationship teams, clients) plus functions like Compliance, Risk, Ops, and Technology. Own the relation management with broker research providers.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Lead end-to-end vendor, supplier and broker research relationships across the investment platform, driving commercial optimisation, contract negotiations and acting as Third Party Engagement Manager (TPEM) for Investments.
  • Develop and execute strategic responses to evolving regulatory requirements, including MiFID II, FCA and ESMA research funding regulations.
  • Define and deliver the front-office vendor, research and market data strategy, overseeing key providers including Bloomberg, FactSet, Refinitiv and Morningstar.
  • Drive market data governance, licensing, supplier reviews and spend optimisation, identifying opportunities for platform efficiency, consolidation and cost savings.
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Procurement and operational teams to ensure regulatory adherence and alignment with the Asset Management operational risk framework.
  • Lead strategic initiatives to enhance the investment operating model, including nearshore/offshore delivery strategies, research funding frameworks, automation and process improvement.
  • Manage and develop research services and business management teams while supporting the Global CIO Office in delivering strategic priorities and investment platform objectives.
  • Produce executive-level governance and management information, including Investment Manco and OpCo packs, while providing strategic support to the Chief of Staff, Business Manager and senior investment leadership.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused, with strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of portfolio management, financial markets, financial instruments, risk sensitivities, modern portfolio theory and security analysis.
  • Experience working within a research services environment, whether at a brokerage, investment bank, research provider or market data vendor.
  • Proven expertise managing research subscriptions, licences, renewals, entitlements, user access and associated invoicing processes.
  • Strong vendor management experience, including supplier sourcing, due diligence, onboarding, ongoing oversight and risk management.
  • Track record of using KPIs and SLAs to drive service improvements, resolve operational issues and enhance service delivery.
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, FactSet and Refinitiv, with experience optimising licences, improving platform efficiencies and managing market data spend.
