Head of Financial Engineering and Rapid Development
London, GB, E14 5HQ
Job description
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
HSBC Asset Management’s Investment Technology team is evolving our Investment Decision Support Tools (DST) to be faster, smarter and more scalable—so our investment teams can make better decisions, with stronger controls, in real time.
We’re looking for a Head of Financial Engineering & Rapid Development to take a hands-on approach in building advanced analytics and models, shaping the DST target architecture, and leading a specialist Rapid Development & Financial Engineering sub-team delivering high-impact capabilities across portfolio optimisation, risk, predictive signals and AI-driven asset management.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you’ll:
- Design, build and deliver quantitative models and analytics (optimisation, risk, predictive signals) in C# and Python, with a strong focus on production quality.
- Drive implementation of the DST target architecture, making key decisions on integration, performance, scalability and real-time capability.
- Lead the application of AI/ML and predictive analytics for investment use-cases, embedding appropriate controls for safe adoption.
- Manage and develop a specialist Rapid Development & Financial Engineering sub-team, setting priorities, ways of working and engineering standards.
- Partner with adjacent teams (platform delivery/support, analytics oversight, governance reporting) to take solutions from prototype to production at pace.
- Continuously improve engineering outcomes (performance, testing, stability, technical debt) and ensure delivery aligns to agreed standards and controls.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Strong track record in quantitative modelling for investments (e.g., portfolio optimisation, risk analytics, alpha/signal research).
- Advanced C# engineering capability (system design, performance optimisation, testing discipline, production support patterns).
- Strong Python engineering for data/ML workflows, with experience operationalising models into robust services or pipelines.
- Practical experience applying AI to investment problems, with working knowledge of MLOps concepts (monitoring, retraining, deployment patterns).
- Experience delivering or shaping scalable, real-time analytics platforms/architectures, ideally within decision-support tooling.
- Proven people leadership of quant developers/engineering teams would be beneficial but not essential
