Ready to strengthen Non-Financial Risk across global Securities Services Operations?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

Head of Operations - Custody, Clearing & Settlements, Asset Services NFR is accountable for the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) capability supporting Custody, Clearing & Settlements and Asset Services Operations globally. You’ll set the risk strategy and culture for the remit and implement risk management processes and frameworks that keep Operations within risk appetite. Embedded within Markets & Securities Services Operations, this role operates in a highly regulated environment across a global footprint. Success means a robust control framework, clear governance and timely remediation that reduces repeat issues and strengthens operational resilience. The role also supports forward-looking risk identification through high-quality management information and oversight of incident trends. Based in London you’ll work across global time zones and partner closely with MSS Operations leadership, Securities Services business and 2LoD and 3LoD teams.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the global NFR capability for Custody, Clearing & Settlements and Asset Services Operations including risk strategy and culture
  • Establish and improve the Operations control environment covering control design, execution quality, evidence standards and assurance readiness
  • Embed consistent risk and control assessments (for example RCSA and ICAs where applicable) to identify, assess and treat risks within appetite
  • Manage end-to-end issue remediation for audit, regulatory and internal assurance findings including root cause analysis, plans and sustainable fixes
  • Oversee governance for issue tracking, reporting and escalation to support timely closure and prevent recurrence
  • Strengthen operational resilience by mapping critical services, identifying vulnerabilities and improving recovery capabilities with scenario testing and lessons learned
  • Build NFR management information including KRIs, KPIs, control performance, issue ageing and forward-looking indicators for risk forums and committees
  • Partner with change and vendor stakeholders to embed NFR into process, technology and location changes and ensure appropriate third-party oversight

What we're looking for

  • Bring domain expertise across Custody, Clearing & Settlements and Asset Services including end-to-end operating model, product and service flows and client and regulatory expectations
  • Demonstrate proven global experience owning Non-Financial Risk, Operational Risk and Controls including control design, uplift and operational excellence across complex multi-site operations (Client facing/transformation and consultancy backgrounds may be considered)
  • Show a track record delivering sustainable remediation for high-severity issues partnering with 2LoD and Internal Audit through closure, validation and evidence of effectiveness
  • Partner effectively across a matrix organisation securing decisions and sponsorship through governance and executive forums including resourcing and prioritisation
  • Apply structured data-led evaluation to translate complex risk topics into clear executive actions that balance risk reduction, client outcomes and cost efficiency
  • Build and sustain capability across teams through coaching, performance management and risk training to improve first-time-right execution

Strengthening Controls at Scale

This role offers the opportunity to shape how risk is identified, governed and addressed across global Securities Services Operations. You’ll set clear expectations for control quality, remediation and resilience and ensure outcomes are embedded into day-to-day operations. Working closely with senior stakeholders across Operations, business and risk you’ll turn emerging risks and incident trends into timely action. If you’re ready to make controls more effective and improve customer outcomes through stronger operational discipline we’d like to hear from you. Occasional travel may be required depending on stakeholder needs.
