The GCIO CIB and HBEU Technology team is responsible for leading the design, build, delivery and ongoing management of world-class technology, digital products and services for CIB and HBEU customers and colleagues.

 

CMA is one of the core businesses with CIB that leads the way with a competitive, scalable, financing-led model. The team supports clients globally with best-in-class financing capabilities across Debt Capital Markets and Leveraged Acquisition Finance, complemented by Corporate Risk Solutions and Strategic Equity & Financing.

CMA Technology is a core enabler to the CMA business outcomes and the Head of CMA Delivery will play a fundamental role in the leadership of the Technology and Change Value Stream.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Leadership: Lead the CMA Technology Delivery across all lines of CMA business. Inclusive of Future State Architecture (FSA) management to build, drive, and deliver future roadmap capabilities aligned to OKR’s that you have helped set.
  • Accountability: Accountable for the execution and delivery of innovative, impactful technology solutions and products across CMA Technology. This role is responsible globally for planning, development and alignment of order books, BoW, people strategy, day to day management ensuring requirements and business outcomes are met across ‘Change the Bank’ and ‘Run the Bank’.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with the CIB and interlocking businesses, providing cutting edge Technology support and enablement to the Businesses’ global strategy and end-to-end services. The role holder represents CMA technology and manages key global and regional stakeholders/relationships.
  • Value Stream: Ownership and co-ordination of all aspects of technology change, regular engagement into C-suite and MD level business owners for regular update and co-ordination of outcomes. Close collaboration with transformation, COO, business, risk, compliance and enterprise tech teams is fundamental.
  • Strategy: Ensure CMA Technology OKRs are achieved, as well as supporting wider departmental OKRs and metrics. Including but not limited to; engineering best practices, service resiliency, estate simplification, talent and wellbeing initiatives, innovation, application demise and emerging technology such as AI at scale.
  • Budget and Spend: Responsible for providing transparency on the total technology cost and influence technology cost drivers. Manage interlock funding cross line of business as key Value Stream enabler.
  • Implement a delivery assurance function to ensure timely, quality delivery of CMA deliverables in accordance with Group and GCIO governance standards
  • Facilitating the team to self-organize; enabling continuous improvement of change and run activities, aligned to the product roadmap and customer expectations.
  • Responsible for the coaching and leadership responsibilities that enable Agile delivery; including facilitating team meetings such as retrospectives, reviews and planning events.
  • Build appropriate MI and communications channels to support delivery.
  • Build and maintain cost tracking for Project Delivery.
  • Embed and standardize our ways of working.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the CMA Value Stream – providing a channel for the sharing of information and prioritisation of work.
  • Build and maintain relationships within Technology and the CMA Value Stream to cultivate program support and awareness.

 

What you will bring to the role

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong expertise in and understanding of CMA business, experience of operating in Investment Banking / IBD / Capital Markets preferred.
  • Experience leading large scale regulatory or technological programmes. End-to-end change management, technology management especially in large-scale, complex global or regional programmes.
  • Expert level experience with Agile and iterative delivery methods into an IBD environment showing awareness of stakeholders and interplaying areas
  • Familiarity with HSBC’s operating model, values, and governance. Awareness of co-design and appreciation for where CMA immediate co-design opportunities are
  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional, multi-location teams with accountability for budget, delivery and risk.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, including engagement with senior executives, both in technology and the CMA business.
  • Knowledge of Digital Acceleration Program (DAP), Value Stream leadership, and Future State Architecture (FSA) is preferred. Ability to articulate IBD strategies and Technology goals

Requires very strong abilities in critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in developing new concepts, theories, and products to address complex and strategic issues
  • Delivery of Complex Change: Has consistently demonstrated the successful management and delivery of complex technical change project and programmes both regionally and globally
  • Operational Resilience: Has shown strong ability to adapt and operate through disruptive change. Agile critical thinker able to lead through change at pace and with resilience.
  • Effective leadership and management: Proven record of making sound judgments, effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building teams and consensus; getting things done through others not directly under his/her supervision; and working ethically and with integrity. Proven record of effective management, including planning and decision-making, identifying priorities and bringing projects to successful completion in a timely manner; and maintaining a focus on high standards.
  • People leader: A current people manager with strong interpersonal skills – ability to work across organizations at all levels. Extensive experience in building and growing a high performing diverse team.
  • Future focus: Hands-on experience across multiple complex domains and technology stacks. Extensive experience and understanding of external and internal applicable technologies.

 

Essential Capabilities:

  • Ability to articulate the CMA business lines, applicable technologies and co-design opportunities
  • Ability to clearly define Technology strategies applicable to CMA, detailed awareness of external technologies and disruption occurring.
  • Technically astute to act as TBSL and run any NDA projects with experience working in a private side environment and the complexities that brings. Is able to demonstrate strategies for building solutions in this landscape.
