GCIO Controls Director, Platform Engineering and Architecture

 

The GCIO Chief Control Office (CCO) team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite, by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management.  We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, conducting high quality reviews of the bank's control environment, conducting end to end control reviews on key controls, maintaining robust risk governance focused on material risk and issues, and evolving a culture of continuous and consistent risk management.

 

In this fantastic new role, you will become an integral part of a growing team, partnering with the HSBC Chief Technology Office (CTO) to ensure the delivery of risk-based, strategic outcomes on a global scale. Your expertise will be pivotal in informing and advising on relevant risk and control-based issues, initiatives, and updates that impact the Group.

 

As a leader within the GCIO Chief Control Office (GCIO CCO) Function, you will directly support the CTO within HSBC. This is a truly global role, where you will be responsible for overseeing global CCO activities that support the CTO. Your leadership will drive cultural change and deliver robust risk management practices and control governance across GCIO, ensuring that CTO risk management is transparent and clear to all Global Business and Functions, regions, and entities.

In this role, duties will include:

 

  • Strategic Risk Governance: Establishing and maintaining a robust framework for risk governance, ensuring comprehensive visibility and proactive remediation of key risks across all stakeholder groups.
  • Executive Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivating and managing high-level relationships with GCIO CCO and CTO, providing strategic insights and challenges to enhance the control environment.
  • Insightful Reporting and Escalation: Overseeing the preparation and delivery of executive updates, ensuring consistent, insightful reporting and timely escalation of critical issues.
  • Risk and Control Expertise: Leveraging specialist knowledge to drive continuous enhancement of the control environment, anticipating future trends and developments.
  • Strategic Planning and Optimisation: Formulating and executing strategic plans that maximize benefits and minimise risks, considering delivery constraints and optimising resources.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Championing the ongoing refinement of processes, policies, and tools within GCIO CCO to drive operational excellence.
  • Leadership and Cultural Transformation: Exemplifying core values and behaviours, leading the CCO CTO team in fostering a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and strategic focus.
  • Risk Culture Embedding: Integrating a robust risk culture and change delivery capability throughout the GCIO CCO function, ensuring alignment with HSBC's strategic objectives.

 

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

 

Technical:

 

  • Expertise in infrastructure technology, including databases, middleware, IT architecture, infrastructure, platforms, and Cloud
  • Detailed knowledge of infrastructure, architecture, and software development lifecycle tech controls.
  • Experience in performing risk and control reviews, with a broad understanding of the Non-Financial Risk framework
  • Proven project management experience with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage complex projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology development and infrastructure, and how these can be used to meet business needs.

 

Behavioural Skills:

 

  • Strong leadership background with a proven track record of managing diverse stakeholders and building regional team relationships.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language, coupled with strong interpersonal skills to engage collaboratively with teams and business partners.
  • Ability to synthesise complex information and make data-driven decisions to drive business outcomes.
  • Ability to manage right outcomes for technology across diverse stakeholders with competing objectives.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate flexibility, and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

 

This role is based in London on a hybrid basis.
