The team you’ll work with:

The Venture and Growth Debt Finance team supports exciting, high-growth private businesses across a broad range of sub-sectors and life-stages—from early-stage seed deals through to high-profile, late-stage companies pre-IPO or approaching profitability. The team delivers across the spectrum of HINV’s debt financing solutions, including venture debt, late-stage growth capital, working capital, and recurring revenue facilities.

The team is focused on high-growth innovative Fintechs across the vertical, from software underpinning financial services, specialist wealthtech, insurtech and alt lenders through to complex paytech businesses.

The value you’ll add:

As Director, you’ll lead the team and act as head of the Fintech portfolio, with accountability for people leadership, strategic direction, and the credit risk profile of the sector.

You’ll play a hands-on role in due diligence and deal structuring, leading the most complex and high-impact transactions while providing guidance and oversight to Vice Presidents on deals and situations they lead. You’ll partner closely with internal stakeholders to deliver and negotiate credit solutions, manage a range of client relationships, and own the underwriting, approval and closing process. You’ll also drive proactive portfolio management, maintaining credit quality and delivering profitability targets for the sector.

You’ll develop and deliver insights and points of view on loan types and credit/performance trends across relevant sectors and sub-sectors, acting as a trusted subject matter expert for sound judgement and risk assessment.

You’ll recruit, build and lead a high-performing team of Vice Presidents and Associates responsible for end-to-end lending and credit management across a diverse set of client relationships.

What you can expect to be doing:

  • Overseeing the structuring, underwriting and closing of credit solutions for the team’s assigned sector/market/portfolio, including allocating resources and providing expert guidance across the business, with direct involvement in priority opportunities as needed
  • Overseeing portfolio management for the Fintech sector, including resource allocation, maintaining credit quality and profitability targets, and direct engagement in higher-risk or complex situations
  • Strengthening strategic relationships with key executives and influencers across clients, prospects and the broader ecosystem
  • Leading, coaching and developing a team of Vice Presidents and Associates—managing workload, building capability, supporting career development, retaining top talent, and delivering scalability initiatives
  • Staying close to market, sector and competitive trends, developing and sharing insights on loan types and credit/performance trends, and identifying opportunities to innovate our solutions
  • Supporting the delivery of Fintech as a key strategic growth sector for HSBC Innovation

Requirements:

  • Experience structuring debt solutions for commercial or corporate clients; venture debt experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in the technology sector, ideally supporting venture-backed firms (Fintech experience desirable)
  • Strong capability in proactively managing a large, complex portfolio of borrowing relationships
  • Highly skilled in underwriting, structuring, negotiating and executing complex financing solutions to meet client needs
  • Experience managing a team and driving strategic initiatives and performance
  • Proven track record delivering credit solutions and strong portfolio management outcomes
