Role Purpose
The Director, leads the Custody Control Activities team within Securities Services, driving excellence in product control and regulatory compliance across global custody product covering Global Custody and Direct Custody.

This role is accountable for the strategic leadership of and ongoing enhancement of the control framework and regulatory compliance framework across all operating markets, ensuring robust and consistent oversight standards. The incumbent provides strategic direction on change management, operational control enhancement, and tracking against Client and Service Level commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance Framework:
    Maintain the comprehensive regulatory compliance map for all custody businesses.
  • Control Framework Design and Oversight:
    Develop and oversee the custody control framework, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s risk management, compliance, policy and regulatory standards.
  • Stakeholder Partnership:
    Collaborate with regional and market leads to drive consistent adoption of control activities and governance requirements.
  • Control Monitoring Framework Design & Reporting:
    Implement robust control monitoring, remediation, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Product Catalogue & Service Level Definition Management:
    Ensure all frameworks are maintained and uplifted as the Product set develops.
  • Governance:
    Represent Custody Product in appropriate governance forums, control committees, and regulatory reviews, advocating for best practice.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Lead initiatives to enhance control effectiveness and adapt to evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing team of control professionals, fostering expertise and collaboration across markets.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in securities services, custody operations, or control functions within a global financial institution.
  • Deep understanding of custody operating models, and regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proven track record in control development and design, regulatory mapping, and governance oversight.
  • Strong grasp of regulatory reporting obligations (e.g., client asset protection).
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging regulators, auditors, and senior management.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence outcomes in a matrixed environment.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, or related discipline; professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, CAMS) are advantageous.
