Corporate Banking Origination UK (“CMBO”) is responsible for the origination of Loan & Capital Markets business across the Commercial Bank’s (CMB) client base in the UK.
The product-agnostic team originates opportunities across all sectors via consistent and intense client coverage. Using our market-leading loan proposition and deep knowledge and understanding of the capital markets product suite, we proactively provide clients with strategic content to support their growth ambitions and help optimise their capital structure.
CMBO collaborates closely and regularly with Coverage and Senior Management across CMB, as well as product and sector partners within Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB).
The Director position is the primary market face of the team. This role is within the Corporate Debt Finance Origination part of the team, which specialises in arranging bilateral and club loans to private and listed corporates, supporting loan growth across the client and prospect universe, as well as identifying capital market and alternative funding (i.e. private credit) opportunities where appropriate. You will directly support our deep-seated client relationships to bring our loan proposition to our corporate client base and targeted prospects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Originating, structuring, pricing and executing loan transactions (primarily RCF / Term Loans) across the UK CMB client base and prospect names, from ordinary course refinances to large-scale M&A
- Developing and maintaining ‘trusted advisor’ relationship and access at C-suite level for current and target clients
- Assessing financial models and business valuations
- Working with our Transaction Management team on loan execution
- Conducting industry and company specific research where relevant for the support of origination activities and to ensure value-add content is taken to our clients and prospects
- Sharing information, knowledge and ideas to enhance client dialogue and team performance
- Building the team’s reputation with internal and external stakeholders and maintaining trusted relationships with the Coverage teams, Product Partners, Sector and Senior Management to drive origination opportunities and client engagement
- Driving proactive collaboration with CIB product partners where relevant (DCM Private Placements, Export and Asset Finance, Private Credit), international colleagues, and other global businesses to deliver maximum value of HSBC products and services to our clients and deepening existing relationships.
- Ensuring CMBO operates in accordance with the HSBC’s internal lending and other guidelines, controls and procedures and also in line with any external regulatory requirements
To be successful in this role you should have:
- A genuine interest in the financial markets
- Significant experience working in relevant environments/markets, e.g. Loan Market, Debt/Structured Finance, Capital Markets teams
- Excellent knowledge of loan products, including cash-flow lending (corporate or leveraged), M&A and post-IPO financing
- Extremely strong financial analysis and financial modelling skills, and the ability to teach and support others.
- Significant experience assessing creditworthiness of businesses
- A proven track record of leading and delivering client presentations
- A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own/others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes
- A passion for supporting mid-market corporate clients, whether owner-managed, supported via minority professional investors or listed
- Demonstrable success in proactively originating, leading and structuring senior debt led transactions
- A strong network of contacts across relevant markets
- A track record of building and developing strategic relationships at C-suite levels
The base location for this role is 71 Queen Victoria Street, London. Hybrid working is available.
This role will be predominantly focussed on our mid-market client base in the London & South East region, and travel will be required.

Qualifications
This role is subject to the requirements of Certification Regime, set out by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Candidates must either have attained the CISI Level 3 Certificate in Corporate Finance, or should be committed to completing this qualification within 1 year of being in role.
