We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Associate Structured Finance Origination and Execution

The role holder will be responsible for assisting with the origination, structuring and overseeing execution of asset backed finance, asset backed securities and both cash and synthetic risk transfer transactions within the Structured Finance EMEA team.  The role will cover a wide range of asset classes including mortgages, unsecured consumer loans, trade receivables, corporate loans, real estate finance and loan on loan structures.  The SF team is responsible for both the financing of new transactions on to the balance sheet as well as the subsequent refinancing via the ABS markets and other de-risking channels. Role will fit within the Distribution, Structuring and Financing vertical and will involve actively supporting syndication process and acting as a bridge between the Structured Finance team and other key distribution stakeholders, and helping to execute on the full range of distribution initiatives both for assets owned within the Structured Finance business and for the wider HSBC Group balance sheet.

Principle responsibilities

  • Working with SF team management to market to HSBC’s new and prospective clients to originate new financing and distribution opportunities. Working with junior team members to product relevant content to facilitate high quality discussions across our client base.
  • Strong and varied product knowledge across asset classes.
  • Assisting with the design of complex asset backed financing structures to meet client needs as well as being capital efficient and managing the bank’s risk profile. 
  • Writing term sheets to share with clients to agree financing terms.
  • Leading the structuring and execution of financing transactions, both for balance sheet transactions, capital markets and risk transfer transactions in conjunction with other internal product partners. 
  • Working with external counsel to ensure transaction documentation is in line with agreed structure.
  • Relevant academic experience with demonstrated high levels of achievement in numerical or quantitative disciplines.
  • Strong technical skills and ability to model both asset and liability side cashflows and to optimise capital structures for clients
  • Working closely with key distribution stakeholders in both syndicate, MSS structured finance sales and internal stakeholders (including CCM) to efficiently manage ABS and distribution processes for clients and for the bank
  • Working with the SF Portfolio Management function to provide a first line of defence in managing the risk profile of the existing book including maintaining regular dialogue with clients on their business performance and being aware of external factors that can impact on our risk profile. 

 

Required skills and experience

  • Some experience of or background in asset backed deal origination and execution, or associated businesses e.g. portfolio management preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ABS market across several asset classes including rating agency methodologies and regulatory environment.
  • Understanding of capital calculation considerations and ability to perform portfolio level analysis with a view to tailoring transactions to maximise distribution effectiveness.
  • Strong analytical background with proven experience in optimisation of outcomes and process/transaction optimisation.
  • Knowledge of market counterparties and strong knowledge of users of asset backed products.  Previous experience of working directly with clients and managing ongoing relationships.
  • Knowledge of Corporate and Institutional Banking products
  • Very strong Excel modelling skills (or other programming language) and ability to read and comment on complex legal documents.
