HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.
We have an opportunity within HSBC Asset Management Private Credit/Lending business for an Associate Director.
In the UK and across Europe, HSBC Bank are the leading provider of debt to mid-market private equity sponsor owned businesses and the Direct Lending team benefit from access to this origination pipeline. The role will report to the Investment Director and team are part of the broader Private Credit business in Asset Management reporting to the Head of Private Credit and through to the CEO of Alternatives. Private Credit also includes Infrastructure Debt, Venture Debt with the potential to grow. The is comprised of 19 investment professionals and 5 product development professionals split between London and New York. The Direct Lending Investment team focus on providing senior secured loans to mid-market borrowers across Europe. Through collaboration the team analyse new transaction opportunities, taking them through due diligence and executing loans. Once executed the team will also undertake portfolio monitoring.
In this role you will:
- Senior role within the Direct Lending team focussed on origination of new investment opportunities in the UK and Continental Europe.
- Leads the assessment and analysis of Private Credit transactions for recommendation to the Investment Committee and the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio.
- Build strong relationships with financial sponsors, advisers, management teams and HSBC Bank origination professionals in order to best position Asset Management funds for transactions.
- For new transactions you will review of information memorandum, business plans, third party due diligence reports and building/ testing assumptions of financial models provided.
- Management of transaction documentation process in conjunction with HSBC Bank and/or external stakeholders to ensure that investments are completed in an efficient manner.
- Ongoing oversight of investments post completion including involvement in investments showing signs of stress or distress.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Relevant experience at an Associate Director level experience in Private Credit/Lending and /or Leveraged Finance with some exposure to mid-market lending is essential.
- Able to demonstrate a knowledge of supporting deal origination, including reviewing information memoranda, business plans and 3rd party due diligence is essential.
- Ability to analyse complex financial data and information and create easily digestible content, reports and presentations for a varied audience including internal colleagues and teams and external client stakeholders
- Have excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engender a ‘Trusted Advisor’ status across an internal and external client base.Strong analytical skills including working with financial models and an understanding of the fundamentals of investment appraisal.
- Hold a relevant professional qualification such as IMC, CFA, ACCA/ACA
