HSBCs London based Emerging Markets Debt Syndicate desk is seeking Associate level applicants. The successful candidate in the EM DCM Syndicate team will play a central role in the execution of Sovereign, Quasi-Sovereign, Corporate and Financial Institution bond transactions across the whole CEEMEA region. This is a high-intensity, high-visibility front-office role requiring strong market knowledge, ability to operate in a fast pace environment, with strong analytical capability, precision under pressure, and effective communication with issuers, investors, and internal stakeholders. 

 

The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of the Bond transaction lifecycle - including pricing, assisting issuer clients with Investor Relations exercises, liaising with markets (public) side colleagues in sales and trading with regard to secondary market flows/themes - all of which are packaged up into our client narrative/pitching and transaction recommendations. The Emerging Market DCM market is extremely competitive; candidates should come armed with a mindset to build long term partnerships with internal stakeholders and external clients whilst always seeking innovative ways to differentiate.

 

Main duties

  1. Transaction Execution & Syndication Support
    • Executing new transactions in conjunction with HSBCs global sales and trading platform
    • Assist in Pricing & Constructing new issues curves, including relative value positioning, arbitrage opportunities, etc.
    • Roadshow & Marketing Logistics - coordinate investor roadshows and marketing schedules across time zones, compile roadshow feedback for issuers and senior DCM team and contribute to pricing strategy
    • Alongside origination colleagues, build relationships/provide issuer coverage to understand financing needs, market access, timing, execution strategy and asset class selection.
  1. Market Analysis & Investor Intelligence
    • Track market performance and investor flows to optimize execution strategy recommendation, including timing and positioning of new issues
    • Monitor macro developments, peer transactions and credit curves to guide issuers on relative value pricing and execution strategy
    • Deliver concise investor feedback summaries and market updates to DCM originators and clients
    • Work closely with global sales force to gauge investor appetite, structure books, and manage real-time pricing tension
  1. Internal Coordination & Business Development
    • Maintain transaction databases, league table inputs, investors preference files, etc
    • Supporting the team head and other sectors (SSA, Corporates, FIG) in busy periods to maintain a market leading franchise
    • Coordinate closely with middle office team, to ensure accurate allocation and closing process
    • Assist in ad hoc projects including new product rollouts, investor mapping initiatives, conference organisation, etc.

Skills:

  • DCM (Origination and Syndicate) experience
  • Good understanding of Fixed income markets and macro environment 
  • Strong organisational skills, and ability to multi-task under extreme time pressure
  • Acute attention to detail, especially during execution phases
  • Solid analytical foundation for pricing, valuation and peer analysis
  • Clear and confident communicator 
  • Highly collaborative team player, with energy, enthusiasm, drive and commitment to learn and continuously bring a value proposition to win in a competitive market
  • Additional languages relevant to EM regions (Arabic, Spanish, Turkish, etc..) welcome
