HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.
We have an opportunity within HSBC Asset Management Private Lending business for an Associate.
In the UK and across Europe, HSBC Bank are the leading provider of debt to mid-market private equity sponsor owned businesses and the Direct Lending team benefit from access to this origination pipeline. The role will report to the Investment Director and team are part of the broader Private Credit business in Asset Management reporting to the Head of Private Credit and through to the CEO of Alternatives. Private Credit also includes Infrastructure Debt, Venture Debt with the potential to grow. The is comprised of 19 investment professionals and 5 product development professionals split between London and New York. The Direct Lending Investment team focus on providing senior secured loans to mid-market borrowers across Europe. Through collaboration the team analyse new transaction opportunities, taking them through due diligence and executing loans. Once executed the team will also undertake portfolio monitoring. .
In this role you will:
- Associate level role within the Direct Lending team focused on origination of new investment opportunities in the UK and Continental Europe.
- Main responsibility is supporting the assessment and analysis element of private credit transactions for recommendation to Investment Committee and the ongoing monitoring of portfolio and transaction execution
- For new transactions the role holder will review of information memorandum, business plans, third party due diligence reports and building/ testing assumptions of financial models provided.
- Other responsibilities will include management of loan drawdown alongside operations and loan administration teams, checking of investment restrictions, updating of front office systems, ad hoc work on pitch documents and on fund raising materials.
- Be Involved in monitoring of investments post completion and production of internal and external reporting materials
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Relevant experience at an Associate level experience gained within a private credit, leveraged finance, structured finance environment and with some exposure Transaction Execution is essential
- A strong level of commercial acumen with demonstrable evidence of working with financial models and an understanding of the fundamentals of investment appraisal and regulatory issues is essential
- Highly analytical with experience of working with complex financial data and information memoranda, business plans and 3rd party due diligence and create actionable observations and reports is essential
- Highly developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with a proven ability to build strong working relationships across a varied internal audience is essential
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and the ability to deliver compelling presentations to people at all levels within the business is essential
- Excellent time management, planning and organisation skills with the ability to take a pragmatic approach to managing tasks with conflicting priorities.
