Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are seeking an AI Product Owner

In this exciting role, you’ll help move enterprise AI from ambition to measurable impact. You’ll own product strategy and delivery for GenAI capabilities reaching more than 250,000 colleagues worldwide, working with engineering, data, risk, compliance and cybersecurity specialists.

If you’ve delivered practical LLM-based products and know how to balance innovation with safety, security and adoption, this is an opportunity to shape responsible GenAI at global scale.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the GenAI product vision, strategy and roadmap, identifying high-value use cases and translating emerging GenAI capabilities into practical enterprise products.
  • Lead GenAI products through the full lifecycle: discovery, use-case assessment, experimentation, prioritisation, delivery, launch, adoption and continuous improvement.
  • Define and prioritise the GenAI backlog, balancing colleague value, model capability, user experience, technical dependencies, cost, operational resilience and risk.
  • Work closely with engineering, data, architecture and machine-learning specialists to shape requirements and deliver solutions using technologies such as large language models, prompt engineering and AI evaluation.
  • Embed responsible GenAI controls and measurable outcomes, addressing model safety, data privacy, cybersecurity, confidentiality, data leakage, inaccurate outputs, bias, misuse and inappropriate access.

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

  • Significant end-to-end product ownership experience, delivering enterprise AI products in a complex organisation.
  • Strong practical Generative AI expertise, including experience with large language models, prompt design or prompt engineering, retrieval or similar enterprise patterns, AI evaluation and model safety.
  • Demonstrable experience converting GenAI opportunities into production-ready products, including assessing use cases, validating value, managing adoption and improving solutions after launch.
  • Experience delivering GenAI or technology change in a regulated, security-conscious or highly controlled environment, with a clear understanding of data privacy, cybersecurity, compliance and responsible AI.
  • Proven leadership and influence across multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, data, architecture, risk, compliance, cybersecurity and senior business stakeholders; experience managing or coaching product professionals is also important.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we’re dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic background or age. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
