Business Administration and Operational Management
GG, GY1 3NF
Job description
Why HSBC
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
As an HSBC employee in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (CIIOM) you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all employees, enhanced parental and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a non-contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
The Opportunity
Join the Chief Administration Office (CAO) and play a pivotal role in supporting senior leaders across a broad range of strategic and business-as-usual activity. This is an opportunity to help shape how the business operates, respond to regulatory and policy developments, and deliver practical improvements for colleagues and stakeholders.
Working closely with the Head of Business Management and the CEO, you’ll contribute to key priorities including annual reporting, workforce planning, operational improvement and business change. You’ll gain valuable exposure to senior stakeholders across the Private Bank in Guernsey and Switzerland, with opportunities to support cross-border projects and initiatives.
Success in this role means ensuring strong governance, delivering insightful and high-quality reporting, managing audits effectively, engaging confidently with regulators and maintaining momentum across the organisation’s most important priorities.
As the trusted deputy to the Head of Business Management and a valued member of the leadership team, you’ll help drive priorities forward and ensure effective execution. When required, you’ll deputise for the Head of Business Management, acting as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders and providing clear, confident leadership in their absence.
This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys working at pace, connecting strategic thinking with practical delivery, and helping a complex business move forward with confidence.
What you'll be doing
- Manage and coordinate the CAO team’s day-to-day book of work, ensuring priorities are clear, dependencies are understood and delivery remains on track.
- Support the Head of Business Management and CEO in delivering key strategic priorities and business-as-usual outcomes.
- Translate strategic objectives into practical plans, milestones and actions, helping senior leaders maintain momentum across the agenda.
- Support business planning and strategy execution, including tracking progress against priorities, identifying risks and escalating issues where appropriate.
- Review audit reports and incidents, translating findings into clear management actions and sustainable improvements.
- Coordinate information and evidence for internal and external audits, maintaining oversight of actions through to completion.
- Support regulatory engagement by gathering input from subject-matter experts and coordinating reviews with second-line colleagues.
- Assess the impact of HSBC policy changes and translate requirements into practical management actions, controls and communications.
- Prepare governance papers, business overview packs and tailored briefing materials for senior stakeholders and VIP visitors.
- Develop clear, insightful management information to support decision-making, highlight trends and provide visibility of key risks, issues and opportunities.
- Coordinate cross-border initiatives and business change activity across the Private Bank in Guernsey and Switzerland.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, simplify processes and strengthen ways of working across the CAO.
- Deliver workforce planning and management information, including cost analysis for joiners, leavers and non-permanent staff.
- Support annual reporting and other senior-level deliverables, ensuring information is accurate, timely and aligned to business priorities.
- Deputise for the Head of Business Management when required, acting as a trusted point of contact for senior stakeholders and providing clear, confident leadership in their absence.
What we're looking for
- Bring proven experience in financial forecasting and tracking actual costs against plan
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess and communicate the impact of policy, regulatory and business change.
- Coordinate audit and governance activity including evidence preparation and action tracking
- Demonstrate experience working with senior stakeholders across multiple markets including tailoring briefings and packs
- Use Microsoft Office products effectively and apply awareness of responsible AI use to enhance productivity
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences and translate complex information into practical actions
- Manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs to tight deadlines in a regulated environment
