Collateral Services within Market Operations plays a key role in supporting the bank’s Markets business by helping manage risk and deliver consistent client experience through strong operational discipline, accuracy, and well-designed controls. You’ll be joining a global team that works closely with colleagues across the front office, risk, finance and legal to solve problems, improve processes, and deliver outcomes that matter.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Vice President – Collateral Management.

 

The Opportunity:

 

As part of the Markets, Securities Services (MSS) Operations strategic model, HSBC have created a “Center of Excellence” (CoE) for Operations processing in the Global Service Centres in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Manila, Philippines. The “Center of Excellence” (CoE)  supports multiple clients on their collateral operations.

 

The Collateral Management team is responsible for credit risk mitigation through the collateralization of OTC/ Repo/ FX products by performing full third-party collateral management activities on behalf of our institutional client base.

 

The role-holder shall be expected to:

  • Act as a key point of contact to both Clients and Internal / External stakeholders providing support with regard to the operations for Collateral Management. 
  • Ensure high quality service to the business ensuring that risks are minimized and profit is maximized through effective management of costs/resources.
  • Be responsible for driving the Collateral Management Function, defining requirements for and the implementation of strategic and tactical projects, working closely with Business and Change functions teams across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Be responsible for Collateral Management End to End function and manage the execution of an appropriate Oversight and Governance framework.

 

What you’ll do:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth running of the Collateral Onboarding and Exposure Management in Kuala Lumpur and Manila that comprises of 12 staffs across both locations.
  • Strong understanding of the business model and operating architecture, including end-to-end process flows, key systems/data, and how Collateral Services supports Markets products and risk management.
  • Manage and influence senior stakeholders across Account Management, Credit Risk, Wholesale Market Risk, Local Risk leads, and Change/Technology teams, ensuring clear governance, prioritization, and timely decision-making.
  • Establish and run a governance framework for the Kuala Lumpur and Manila teams, ensuring effective workload allocation, performance oversight, and transparent reporting.
  • Define and deliver the target operating model for Collateral Onboarding/Exposure Management to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance client experience.
  • Create and maintain a strategic roadmap to improve output quality and timeliness, including opportunities to standardize and centralize activities where appropriate; act as the escalation point to drive timely issue resolution.
  • Monitor the regulatory and industry landscape impacting collateral services and ensure required changes are embedded into processes, controls, and colleague capability.
  • Maintain a strong control environment to minimize operational losses, ensuring robust risk management, issue management, and adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Partner with global product and operations leaders to plan and execute migrations in line with the agreed end-state model, ensuring readiness, risk assessment, and controlled delivery.
  • Drive onboarding value and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance the service proposition, reducing cycle times, and improving quality.
  • Ensure consistent migration and operating procedures across locations, building capability in KL and Manila to receive work, distribute effectively, and manage delivery in a risk-appropriate and efficient manner.
  • Lead post-migration optimization, delivering efficiency savings through root cause analysis of recurring exceptions and implementation of sustainable fixes.
  • Work closely with Technology and Change teams to deliver tactical fixes and strategic enhancements, ensuring changes are implemented safely and embedded into BAU.
  • Define and track performance metrics to monitor controls, productivity, service levels, and client outcomes, using MI to drive actions and accountability.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing team, recruiting effectively and partnering with Learning & Development to deliver a structured training and accreditation framework.
  • Ensure accurate and relevant MI is produced and checked within the required timescales.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of all reconciliation items, providing clear, concise & relevant documentation to support outstanding items.
  • Play a leading role in developing process improvements and cost save initiatives for the team.
  • Actively look to automate or improve internal processes, ensure Client Change requirements are implemented and integrated into the team operations appropriately

 

Qualifications

 

What you will need to succeed in the role: 

 

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of the Markets and Collateral management business.
  • Good cross asset class understanding especially Interest Rate, Equity & Credit Derivatives, FX, Repos, SBL, structured products, etc.
  • Knowledge of ISDA Credit Support documents.
  • Sound understanding of collateral assets: cash, bonds, equity, letters of credit, etc.
  • Aware of industry initiatives within the Collateral space (Margin Rules (IOSCO), Margin Booking and Allocation, CCPs, Basel, EMIR, Dodd Frank, etc)
  • Experienced operations professional with significant exposure to managing offshore operations; ideally with a focus on Collateral processing but not exclusively.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills with the capability or history of managing staff.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment with ability to support multiple functions and stakeholders.
  • Hands on experience of formulating and executing on-shore and off-shore operating models.
  • Strong awareness and appreciation of operations risk and control and exception management
  • Ability to implement global initiatives and work as part of a global management team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across an organization.
  • Attention to detail and a hands-on approach to management to work with local managers’ driving process change and improve efficiency and control.
  • Strong budgetary experience.
  • Familiar working knowledge of associated Collateral systems and technology.
