Global Risk
Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, pension, insurance, compliance, regulatory, market, reputation and geopolitical risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Manager Portfolio Risk Management (Unsecured).
Principal Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end oversight of Financial Risk and Non-Financial Risk for the retail unsecured portfolio (Cards, Personal Loan, Overdraft), ensuring balanced risk decisions and sustainable growth.
- Develop, review, implement, and maintain risk policies and frameworks for unsecured lending, aligned to portfolio strategy, risk appetite, and governance expectations.
- Lead portfolio performance and credit quality monitoring using MIS, reporting tools, and early warning triggers to protect agreed KPIs and proactively manage emerging risks.
- Conduct periodic portfolio, product, and policy programme reviews, including annual renewal of the RRP and Risk Mitigation programme, ensuring controls remain effective and current.
- Oversee key stakeholder engagements (e.g. Global, AME, Market FloD and SLoDs, vendors) across BAU and ad hoc reviews, including testing/enabler proposals, initiative design, and project delivery governance.
- Drive risk analytics and insight generation to support decision-making across the credit lifecycle (application assessment, portfolio management, and the credit–fraud interface).
- Support audit, regulatory, and compliance deliverables by producing robust analysis, evidence packs, and remediation actions for internal/external reviews.
- Steer automation and system implementation of credit strategies and policies across credit origination platforms, decision engines (acquisition and portfolio management), improving control effectiveness and speed-to-market.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in AI (HSBC Productivity Suite, Python, Co-Pilot) to accelerate analysis, automate reporting, improve documentation quality, and enhance stakeholder communications (with appropriate governance and data handling).
- Act as a collaborative risk partner—communicating clearly with stakeholders, translating complex regulatory/business requirements into executable actions, and driving transformation with accountability.
Requirement:
- Degree-qualified with 5+ years’ banking experience, ideally within retail unsecured lending (Cards/PL/OD) and understanding of the end-to-end credit cycle.
- Financial Risk and Non-Financial Risk awareness, including credit risk issues across the portfolio lifecycle and the credit–fraud interface, with a control-minded approach.
- Strong knowledge of local regulations and guidelines relevant to unsecured products, with the ability to interpret requirements and translate them into practical execution.
- Strong analytics capability: advanced Excel plus experience with MIS/reporting tools; SAS/QlikView and Python / machine learning are advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder management and delivery skills: collaborative team player, clear communicator, comfortable working across functions/vendors, with an agile, transformation-oriented mindset and aptitude for systems/automation (e.g., decision engines).
