We are currently seeking a high performing talent to join the International Wealth and Personal Banking (IWPB) Business Finance team in the role as Head of Business Finance – International Wealth and Personal Banking (IWPB). The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad.

This role serves as the key business partner to the IWPB stakeholders, influencing the business strategy and shaping the forward-looking outlook for the IWPB business in HSBC Malaysia (comprising HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and its Islamic banking subsidiary, HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad).

We will consider candidates from across a range of financial skillsets including analytical, commercial, accounting, control and operational. Previous experience of IWPB is preferable but is not essential.

Principal Responsibilities 

Decision support and insights

  • Ensuring business decisions and resource allocations align to the IWPB strategic objectives that provide the desired return on investment.
  • Leading the Financial Resource Planning Process (FRP), Stress Testing and Forecast Assumption process with the business and providing Finance perspective on the results in key governance forums.
  • Using data, reporting and insight to develop any investment cases.
  • Influencing strategic decisions, such as portfolio or business reviews.
  • Monitoring business actions to completion; according to key milestones.

Stakeholders/leadership and teamwork

  • Providing advice to the business, influencing strategy and shaping the future business priorities.
  • Be able to operate with and within a lean Finance and Business team; holding teams accountable for performance or actions.
  • Collaborate and drive change with peers and stakeholders, keeping pace with evolving business priorities and external market trends.
  • Lead and coach team to ensure that the Finance strategy is implemented, and act as a champion on all finance activities, including being responsible for the execution and delivery of any relevant change agenda in Finance for the IWPB Business Finance team;

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the controls that are in place to manage the risks in the processes and activities that they undertake in their day-to -day role.
  • Bringing to life risks or challenges associated with achieving the plan and factoring these into decision making. Being an advocate for incorporating risk into business and finance decisions, which may include credit, operational, reputational or other risks. 

Requirements:

  • A graduate with over 10 years of experience in Finance related field and possess accounting professional qualification awarded by internationally recognized accounting bodies, eg. ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, Australia CPA, MICPA etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of Malaysia and International Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS/IFRS), regulatory reporting requirements issued by Bank Negara Malaysia, BNM (and PRA/HKMA will be a plus). Knowledge in Accounting treatment of Islamic Products, preferred.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team as well as exhibit strong leadership capabilities of navigating, aspiring, driving, mobilising and sustaining the team, in line with HSBC’s values.
  • Sound understanding of drivers of profitability and returns in financial institutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience of preparation of reports and analysis, commentary suitable for presentation at senior management level.
  • An ability to challenge or support business decisions thoughtfully, precisely and confidently.
  • A commercial mindset and outlook.
  • There is a large element of ad hoc requirements within this role – the role holder will need to evidence ability to work under time pressure, flexible, practical and build excellent stakeholder relationships whilst carrying out his/her core responsibilities. A strong team work ethic is critical.
