This placement offers hands-on exposure to how a Deposits team operates end-to-end—supporting account servicing, transaction coordination, customer engagement and disciplined reporting—while developing practical skills for a wide range of banking and financial-services careers.

We’re currently seeking an ambitious individual to join HSBC as a Deposits Graduate Trainee.

This placement provides graduates with real business exposure and the opportunity to develop practical banking capabilities within a global financial-services environment. At HSBC, we also see this as an opportunity to develop early-career talent for future roles.

Key Responsibilities

During the placement, the trainee will provide day-to-day support to the Deposits team, with appropriate supervision. Responsibilities will include:

Deposit and account servicing support

  • Support the administration and servicing of deposit accounts and related customer requests.
  • Assist with processing account-opening, maintenance and closure activities in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Review forms, instructions and supporting documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Support the processing of routine account and deposit-related transactions.
  • Monitor outstanding requests and follow up with relevant teams to ensure timely completion.
  • Identify errors, exceptions, blockers or delays early and escalate them appropriately.

Customer and stakeholder coordination

  • Support responses to routine customer, relationship manager and internal stakeholder enquiries.
  • Coordinate information and documentation requests across relevant teams.
  • Prepare clear updates on account-servicing requests, transaction status and outstanding requirements.
  • Maintain professional communication and ensure queries are tracked through to resolution.
  • Assist with preparing meeting notes, action logs and service updates.

Deposits reporting and management information

  • Maintain accurate deposit trackers, account-servicing records and activity logs.
  • Produce weekly or monthly reports on account activity, transaction volumes, service requests and outstanding items.
  • Support basic data analysis to identify trends, performance highlights and areas for improvement.
  • Highlight overdue actions, upcoming priorities and potential operational risks.
  • Help translate deposit activity and service performance into clear updates for team and management review.

Process, governance and controls support

  • Coordinate documentation and approval requests in line with internal requirements.
  • Support checks on customer and account information to help ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain organised records and audit trails for account-servicing activities and deposit-related requests.
  • Follow applicable risk, compliance, anti-money laundering, data-handling and information-security requirements.
  • Support reconciliation, control-checking and exception-monitoring activities where applicable.
  • Escalate questions, control concerns or exceptions to the appropriate Deposits, Operations or control team.

Process improvement and team support

  • Identify opportunities to improve deposit-servicing processes, reporting and stakeholder communication.
  • Support the documentation of procedures, recurring issues and lessons learned.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across branches, operations, client service, product and control functions.
  • Demonstrate accountability, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering reliable customer service.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline; CGPA of 3.0 or above, or at least second class upper.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and information and interpret findings for business decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow structured processes accurately.
  • Resourceful, organised and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good planning, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ambitious, motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced banking environment.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and adaptable.
  • A collaborative team player with the potential to demonstrate leadership.
  • Computer literate and able to work independently.
  • An interest in deposits, retail banking, transaction processing or customer servicing is advantageous.

You’ll gain:

  • Practical understanding of how a Deposits team operates within a global bank.
  • Exposure to deposit products, account servicing and related operational processes.
  • Experience coordinating work across internal teams, customers, relationship managers and service partners.

  • Hands-on experience in banking reports, data handling and basic performance analysis.
  • Greater awareness of customer due diligence, operational risk, controls and documentation standards.
  • Experience identifying exceptions, resolving service issues and escalating matters appropriately.
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • A foundation for future careers in deposits, retail banking, client servicing, branch banking, operations, product management or broader banking functions.
