Affiliate Relationship Manager, High Risk Sectors Capabilities Office
Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, MY, 55188
Job description
Why join us?
Join the High Risk Sectors team, which provides governance and oversight for sectors that may present heightened financial crime or reputational risks. The team promotes fair outcomes for high-risk sector customers and sets consistent minimum standards to manage these risks throughout the customer lifecycle.
The team covers a range of sectors, including financial technology, correspondent banking and Affiliates, alongside other high-risk customer types. As part of the Affiliates team, you’ll work along colleagues across these specialist areas and with local teams, country stakeholders and risk partners in different jurisdictions and cultures.
You’ll help support effective Affiliate Relationship Management, apply consistent know-your-customer and risk-management standards, and contribute to informed decisions for Affiliate Correspondent Banking customers. The role offers the opportunity to build regional experience, collaborate across borders and develop your understanding of high-risk sectors in an inclusive and supportive environment.
We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and working styles. You don’t need to meet every requirement to apply; if you meet the essential criteria and can demonstrate relevant transferable skills, we encourage you to apply. Reasonable adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process for candidates who need them.
What you’ll do:
- Manage the affiliate relationship lifecycle, ensuring valid Know Your Customer information, documentation, approvals and controls are in place before business is conducted with service-receiving affiliates. Work closely with the Affiliate Know Your Customer team, country teams and relevant stakeholders, including on enhanced anti-money laundering questionnaires, requests for information, account profile requests and new-business approvals.
- Facilitate credit requests and ongoing credit-limit management through the Credit Approval and Risk Management system, ensuring submissions are complete, accurately routed and maintained in line with relationship status and governance requirements.
- Close affiliate relationships when they are sold, wound down, dormant or no longer required, ensuring limits and accounts are closed, notifications are completed and appropriate records and audit trails are maintained.
- Maintain accurate affiliate relationship data and management information, including Know Your Customer status, pending actions, ageing, account information and high-risk population tracking.
- Conduct transactional analysis on higher-risk affiliates with Global Payment Solutions accounts, identifying unusual activity, control gaps and emerging risks, and supporting appropriate risk mitigation.
- Work closely with the High Risk Sectors Enhanced Due Diligence team to provide timely, complete and accurate information for enhanced due diligence reviews of Affiliate Correspondent Banking customers, supporting consistent and well-informed risk assessments.
- Support Affiliate governance, audits and reviews by attending relevant forums, including the Affiliate Risk Working Group and Affiliate Operating Committee, and providing updates, analysis, supporting evidence and timely follow-up actions.
- Maintain awareness of potential risks and control concerns, exercise sound judgement and escalate matters promptly through the appropriate Affiliate escalation channels.
What you will need to succeed in the role
- Relevant experience in client lifecycle management, client onboarding, relationship management, financial crime compliance, or risk and control roles within a bank.
- Strong knowledge of anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, sanctions and financial crime risk management, together with a good understanding of credit risk relating to financial institutions.
- Knowledge of financial institutions, international trade and cross-border payments.
- A proactive approach, with the initiative to take ownership, identify improvements and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timescales.
- Interest in learning about high-risk sectors and their associated financial crime and transactional risks.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across jurisdictions, time zones, functions and cultures.
- Working knowledge of HSBC Group structures, processes and objectives, including the Global Financial Crime Policies and Procedures and Global Customer Due Diligence Procedures, or the ability to learn and apply them.
- Strong organisational and stakeholder-management skills, with flexibility to support international colleagues across different working times and the ability to maintain accurate records and drive issues to resolution.
What additional skills will be good to have?
- Business management experience or additional qualifications in finance.
- Experience preparing management information, governance materials or audit and examination responses.
- Familiarity with affiliate relationship management and the controls required for service-receiving and service-providing affiliates.
- Experience supporting enhanced monitoring, information requests, account restrictions or referrals to specialist risk teams.
