Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

You will be working within CIB Technology – also known as the” investment bank”, where technology is central to all aspects of our business – for example electronic trading in the financial markets.
The team of approx. 7-9 develop applications for a diverse set of FX (Foreign Exchange) services for financial institution clients:
FX Prime Brokerage services to the alternative fund manager industry.
FX Hedging services to Asset Managers.
FX order management and execution to Custodians acting on behalf of their clients.
Our business is global, and we have development teams in Europe (UK, Krakow), APAC (China, HK) and in North America (Toronto). The global team is currently approx. 50 people and for Europe our development team is in Krakow.

What you will do:

Our systems are Java, deployed to Linux and with SQL RDBMS (Sybase/Oracle/PostGres).  Front-end uses a combination of Angular, React and other Javascript libraries;
You will be hands on and technical in this role.
You are expected to meet in the office twice a week or as advised by local Poland entity.
All teams in GBM IT teams are moving their systems towards smaller micro services including ours (average 100-150 micro services running) – this allows “pods” of developers to work on their service, they can release small changes more frequently and more safely (this team release to production daily) and ultimately get working software in the hands of our users and clients as soon as possible.  We also use agile development practices and tooling to develop our systems iteratively.
These are high volume financial markets systems – which means that efficient performance, scalability and design are key aspects of your technology role.
We are Dev Ops - the team is responsible for all aspects of developing the system - this may mean automating testing or deployment or making sure the live systems are instrumented so the team can support them. In GBM IT if something doesn’t work or causes problems you are empowered to fix it.
You will be passionate about the software you deliver and want to take responsibility for all aspects including production service.  We are developers but ultimately, we own what we build and that means taking it in turns monitor the live system during the working day (shared with our colleagues in London) and very occasionally we may need to deal with issues out of hours.
You will ensure your software is compliant with all internal cybersecurity controls and fix vulnerabilities where necessary
You will work in close collaboration with colleagues in Guangzhou, Toronto and London

Skills Required:

  • 5-10 years hands-on experience as a Java full stack engineer, well know the concept of micro-services and familiar with Spring/Boot
  • Proficiency with server side languages such as Java (nodeJs, Ruby, Golang would be a plus).
  • Experience in UI frameworks/technologies will be highly desirable (ie. JavaScript frameworks)
  • Familiarity with database technology such as MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.
