Role Purpose
Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. The ERM function will support the integration of our Group Framework and Appetite Management, and have broad oversight of the Risk Taxonomy. While the core risks of the bank remain consistent compared to a few years ago, the way in which they manifest, the speed to crystallisation and the connection points between them have become increasingly complex. It is therefore essential that we are equipped with the knowledge to navigate the dynamic and interconnected risk landscape of today. The objective of enterprise risk management is to develop a holistic, portfolio view of the most significant risks to the achievement of the Group’s most important objectives. The role will be expected to work across the management matrix, including global, regional and country-level stakeholders, to support the risk oversight of Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) of Asia Middle East (AME) one of the key regions for HSBC Group. The role holder will be the primary responsible for effective management of Non-Financial Risk associated activities, of Hong Kong and the AME region within the business.
In this role, you will:
- Direct and support CIB on their business resilience risk management (Third Party Risk, Data Risk, Transaction and Payment Processing Risk and Business Interruption and Incident Risk) and acts as a key contact for stakeholder engagement with the Business in Hong Kong and the AME region.
- Work closely with the Business to facilitate business growth by providing independent review and challenge, highlighting material risk considerations and necessary mitigations required.
- Provide 2nd line risk stewardship and guidance on CIB business activities which includes collaborating with the Resilience Risk Specialists to offer guidance on managing the most material risks, and to ensure business resilience to potential disruptions, such as data breaches, third-party service provider issues, manual processing errors etc.
- Oversight of emerging risks, strategic business initiatives, local change activities and new products to ensure that potential risks are identified and managed effectively
- Drive and liaise with the Business in Hong Kong and the region to ensure that risk management frameworks are embedded effectively and provide guidance to sites to achieve the same
- Act as the risk specialist of Transaction and Payment Processing Risk for the region and provide a consolidated 2nd line view for CRCO, Asia and Middle East
- Conduct thematic reviews across the Business to ensure that risk and control environment is commensurate with the scale and nature of operations
- Support the Regional Head of Business Resilience, CIB and TPP on the risk oversight and stewardship of the CIB business in Hong Kong and the region as required
To be successful, you will need:
- Strong level of Markets and Securities Services business knowledge and experience of working in a senior role. Having knowledge and experience of any sub-business lines including Banking, Payments, Markets and Securities Services would be a plus.
- Proven experience in a relevant role in Operational Risk, Business Risk and Control, Technology/ Data Risk or others, preferably from a financial services organisation background.
- Strong understanding of risk management by incorporating risk considerations in business activities.
- Business orientated, honed analytical skills, with a strong emphasis on complex analyses of data and management information
- Ability to articulate and present complex concepts and results to audiences in a persuasive and compelling manner.
- Experience of presenting recommendations to Senior Management and Stakeholders.
- Proven track record of leading teams, ideally across geographies and matrixes.
- University degree holder with advanced degrees preferable, (e.g. MBA, MSc, PhD) in relevant discipline
