This role sits at the intersection of financial crime risk management, digital innovation, and client advisory, with a focus on emerging payment rails including Stablecoins, tokenized assets, and digitalized payment ecosystems, alongside traditional cross-border payment channels.

 

As a senior individual contributor, you will support Head of Business Financial Crime Risk, AME to deliver value-add risk services to CIB business, product partners, risk, and clients. You will be part of a team to ensure robust risk identification, assessment, and mitigation of AML, CFT, and sanctions risks, while enabling the bank to compete effectively in the rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.

Key Requirement

 

Financial Crime Advisory (Digital Assets and Currencies Focus)

 

Provide subject matter expertise on AML/CFT and sanctions risks associated with:

  • Stablecoins and digital currencies
  • Tokenized deposits and assets
  • Crypto-linked payment flows and on/off-ramps
  • Fintech partnerships and embedded finance models

 

Interpret and apply new and emerging frameworks, and foundational FC controls that underpins phased products roll-out as business opportunities expand globally and in Asia and the Middle East.

 

Support broader BFCR AME initiatives as part of the Global BFCR family.

 

Under the leadership of Regional Head of High Risk Sector (covering Fintech, Digital Assets Currencies & Correspondent Banking) and Affiliates, AME in the first line, provides BFCR support on Digital Assets Currencies and partner with Senior Manager, FC Digital Asset and Currencies, in the second line of defense.

 

 

Business Enablement & Client Advisory

Work with Corporate & Institutional Banking teams to:

  • Support client onboarding decisions in digital assets and payments space. Support initial CDD/ Enhanced Due Diligence and perform other ongoing deep dive reviews including triggers and changes in customer financial crimes profiles
  • Assess complex client structures, business models, and transaction flows
  • Provide clear, commercially pragmatic risk guidance
  • Act as a client-facing advisor for key strategic clients, articulating the bank’s risk standards and expectations
  • Work with Banking team to escalate material risks to the ASP Fintech Risk Forum chair by Regional Head of High Risk Sector and Affiliates and ASP FC.

 

Product & Payment Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate new and existing payment rails and digital products, including Cross-border payments, Real-time payment systems, Blockchain-based settlement mechanisms
  • Identify inherent risks and design mitigation strategies, controls, and monitoring frameworks

 

Monitoring & Surveillance Advisory

  • Lead and perform comprehensive funds flows analysis using tools such as Elliptic
  • Provide input into transaction monitoring scenarios, typologies, and red flags specific to Digital Assets and Currencies
  • Support development of data-driven and AI-enabled surveillance approaches for emerging risks
  • Contribute to ongoing KYC (perpetual KYC) frameworks for high-risk Digital Assets and Currencies

Thought Leadership & Market Development

  • Act as a thought leader on financial crime risks in Digital Assets and Currencies
  • Contribute to internal training, client education, and industry engagement initiatives
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends (e.g., DeFi risks, AI-enabled fraud, cross-chain laundering typologies)
  • Fluent and capability to stay current in the following areas across HSBC value chains to ensure CIB can optimize at the right client/ product mix opportunity in a risk safe manner

 

To be successful you will need: 

  • Strong background in AML/CFT, sanctions, and financial crime risk management
  • Recent and direct experience in digital assets, digital currencies, or fintech payments ecosystem
  • Proven experience working in Hong Kong or Singapore, with strong familiarity of regional regulatory environments
  • Deep understanding of  Digital Assets and Currencies ecosystems (stablecoins, exchanges, wallets, tokenization) and Financial crime typologies linked to emerging payment channels and industry trend
