Job Description

 

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join the Regional Traded & Treasury Risk Management team as Regional Head of IRRBB and Markets Treasury Risk. This role is based in Hong Kong. 

 

Job Introduction

  • This role is a leadership role within HSBC’s second-line treasury risk team in Asia. The role holder is responsible for leading a team of subject matter experts on interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB risk) and market risk in the banking book.
  • The role holder will work very closely with teams in both first and second line of defence e.g. Treasury, Markets Treasury, Treasury, Finance, Financial Operations and Traded Risk control teams to drive risk management in the areas outlined. 
  • The role holder will combine deep expertise in treasury risk with strong leadership and communication skills and significant regulatory engagement experience.

 

Principal Responsibilities 

Key responsibilities include: -

  • Lead the team and supervise day to day function of the IRRBB and Markets Treasury risk teams in the Asia region; set priorities and manage performance for the team.
  • Provide end-to-end independent oversight of the entity’s interest rate risk in the banking book including but limited to:
    • oversight of market risks undertaken by Markets Treasury.
    • ensuring completeness and accuracy of key risk positions, all risks are correctly captured in a timely manner in accordance with Group policy.
    • monitoring of all risk positions against limits. Proactively managing the business requirements for limit changes and changes to business model.
    • review and challenge of risk appetite, assumptions, hedging strategies, risk & control assessments.
  • Working together with first line teams drive prudent utilisation of the balance sheet resources.
  • Provide second line oversight over regulatory and internal stress tests.
  • Implement relevant risk management policies and procedures, ensuring that they are globally consistent and consider entity specific idiosyncrasies.
  • Drive implementation of IRRBB and Markets Treasury Risk related second line actions pertaining to regulatory initiatives and country specific projects.
  • Support internal, external and regulatory audits of entity IRRBB risks and market risks in Markets Treasury.
  • Review new products and processes to identify all material risks and ensure effective controls around these to ensure appropriate risk management occurs during their life cycle.
  • Establish strong partnership with stakeholders while balancing the independent risk oversight requirements.
  • Foster a strong risk culture within partner functions, promoting risk awareness, escalation, and effective risk management practices.

 

Role Requirements / Education Qualifications / Certifications / Experience:

  • 15 years+ market risk, IRRBB risk, ALM or trading experience with strong technical knowledge of treasury products and markets.
  • SME knowledge of regulations in the outlined risk areas. 
  • High level of maturity, resilience, sharp negotiation and communication skills. Able to work independently and under pressure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills:  Candidate will need the credibility and confidence to quickly resolve unscheduled queries and issues in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to take ownership of key responsibilities, be a problem solver and above all possess common sense.
  • Quantitative degree with experience in programming (will be a plus) and excellent commercial acumen and proven decision making, interpersonal skils (in particular influencing and communication skills).
