We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as a Global Head of SSv Product Solutions Technology.
Securities Services (SSv) is a profitable, scalable, capital-light business at the heart of the Group’s transaction banking, institutional client and wealth ambitions. SSv Technology is a 1,000+ strong global engineering organisation partnering with SSv and colleagues across HSBC to deliver resilient, secure, and industry-leading technology services.
We’re seeking an accomplished technology executive to join as Global Head of SSv Product Solutions Technology, accountable for setting strategy, leading global delivery, and driving measurable outcomes across our product solutions portfolio.
This role is suited to a hands-on technologist with a strong product mindset and a passion for building high-quality products and services for clients, customers and colleagues. You will bring a pragmatic, outcomes-led approach to engineering, architecture and design, and will be comfortable solving complex challenges at scale within a large, global organisation. You will also champion open, collaborative engineering practices.
Reporting to the Global Securities Services Technology CIO, you’ll set direction and lead global delivery for Product Solutions Technology. You’ll build and inspire a high-performing, multi-disciplinary organisation of delivery managers, solution architects, data analysts and full-stack engineers across Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Bangalore, Pune and London. Working closely with business, operations, cyber security, risk and architecture partners, you’ll drive measurable outcomes—modernising platforms, improving reliability and controls, and accelerating time-to-market—while developing talent and strengthening our engineering culture.
What you’ll do (Principal Accountabilities)
Drive measurable outcomes through technology
- Deliver business value as quickly and as safely as possible, balancing pace with resilience and long-term sustainability.
- Own and actively manage a well-defined roadmap, including internal and external dependencies, ensuring transparent prioritisation and delivery governance.
- Coordinate planning across multiple value streams and teams, optimising plans to maximise benefits and minimise risk.
- Define performance measures that track delivery outcomes, client adoption/engagement and service health, and act decisively where outcomes aren’t being met.
Build great digital products, journeys and new capabilities
- Scale reusable technology foundations across digital, data and innovation to increase adoption, accelerate delivery and strengthen cross-team collaboration.
- Define a target-state architecture that incorporates existing and future technologies to balance pace and disruption, aligned to HSBC architectural principles.
- Lead the design, delivery and implementation of technology change impacting platforms—from bug-fix through to major enhancements and re-engineering.
- Establish a strong client and stakeholder feedback loop, ensuring deliverables are accepted and lessons learned are captured through formal retrospectives.
Scale AI, automation and modern engineering practices
- Innovate using emerging technologies including AI/ML, cloud, big data, APIs and DLT, translating opportunities into tangible business value.
- Scale an AI and automation approach that improves client experience, operational efficiency and developer productivity, with appropriate governance and controls.
- Champion engineering excellence and continuous improvement, uplifting capability across the organisation through modern practices (e.g., Agile, DevSecOps) and a strong learning culture.
- Promote high-cadence delivery into production and remove barriers when throughput slows—working with team leads, IT leadership and business partners to improve flow.
Strengthen resilience, risk management and service quality
- Put stability at the heart of delivery: ensure services are designed to operate, observable, supportable and resilient.
- Drive consistent uplift in monitoring, alerting and operational automation to reduce avoidable incidents and improve recovery.
- Anticipate and manage risks, issues and interdependencies; provide timely, clear reporting and constructive challenge to ensure problems are surfaced early and addressed.
Lead value creation and financial stewardship
- Act as a visible change leader with business sponsors—owning outcomes, benefits and adoption.
- Develop and manage business cases (investment, benefits and financial linkage) and ensure benefits realisation through to implementation and transition.
- Manage budgets with strong control and transparency; act on variance and manage to the value proposition.
- Identify and remove barriers to success, addressing difficult topics directly and constructively in HSBC’s best interests.
Build a high-performing, inclusive global team
- Identify and manage resource requirements to build effective international, multi-disciplinary teams; source talent balancing cost, quality and internal capability.
- Set clear objectives and responsibilities; ensure strong induction, orientation and ongoing coaching.
- Build a performance-led culture that improves efficiency and outcomes, including active management of underperformance.
- Promote an environment of inclusion, diversity, collaboration and trust, role-modelling HSBC values and ways of working.
Experience
- Direct experience mobilising and managing change and/or technology in a complex, multinational environment.
- Strong technical implementation experience delivering complex, global, business-critical programmes and/or systems at pace.
- Ability to make key strategic decisions that are pragmatic and grounded in practical solutions.
- Demonstrable experience leading delivery of AI/ML and/or GenAI-enabled capabilities in a regulated enterprise environment, from use-case selection through to production rollout and benefits realisation.
- Proven ability to work across regions whilst maintaining a global perspective.
- Strong commercial focus with financial acumen (business cases, budgeting, benefits realisation).
- Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors.
- Strong people leadership and team management experience.
- Proven implementation, change management and benefits realisation experience.
Knowledge and capabilities
- Excellent understanding of enterprise technology practices (including open-source engineering approaches).
- Knowledgeable on external technology trends and the regulatory environment.
- Clear communication and ability to translate complexity into plain language.
- Strong planning, governance, reporting and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive risk and issue management; practical and pragmatic decision-making.
- Delivery at pace, collaboration, innovation and idea management.
- Proficient in any programming language; comfortable engaging with engineering teams on technical detail.
- Experience working with remote development teams and multiple development lifecycle methodologies; exposure to Agile.
